We had a wonderful holiday staying at this cosy and well equipped cottage In the centre of Windermere. The Burrow is a stones throw from several supermarkets, great pubs and restaurants. This is an excellent base from which to explore the Lake District and we look forward to visiting again in the near future. Special thanks to the owners who were very helpful and accommodating.

We had stayed at this property some years ago, it was dated but very charming and comfortable. Roll on 8 years and it was a different experience. PROS. Location - perfect base. Off road parking. The area is congested and it would be difficult to find a nearby space (however, there is also a permit which can be used in several streets). CONS. Issues with cleanliness were huge. All the carpets need industrial cleaning - this is especially obvious around the high traffic areas and skirting boards (it was black in the living room). The bedding in the twin room needed washing. Fire places were dusty and dirty. Biggest issues in ground floor area (kitchen/dining room). Though quality crockery ... etc supplied, inside cupboards clean, the cupboard surfaces, splash back were tacky with grease/grime. Crumbs behind microwave/toaster/bread bin. The floors were black with dirt and there was evidence of dogs. We chose this property as it’s pet friendly - have stayed in multiple properties that are dog friendly and as £30 extra is paid for cleaning- ordinarily this is NEVER obvious. I feel resentful to have paid more but left the property cleaner than I found it. All marks/symbols on oven worn off - tried to navigate the laborious instructions left in a file, but I think it does have a problem reaching desired heat. Grill worked. Cobwebs everywhere. Would only be acceptable at this level if it had been empty for a few weeks (it’s an old stone cottage, I appreciate they occur). Iron but no ironing board. No hoover. Could benefit from clothes airer - the one built in within the kitchen was not the best room to facilitate drying. Leak in sun room/ conservatory area rendering it unusable. There was evidence of cleaning in bathrooms, but cleaning product not rinsed. FYI. The garden is not enclosed (and again needs TLC), fence that separates patio and parking area is flimsy and unstable in wind. Without a car, you could potentially close the gate, though it looks as it may fall apart!

great holiday cottage, ideally located close to local amenities but not in a location that is too noisy. The beds were comfortable and the facilities available to us worked well.
