We used this purely as a base because we knew we would be going out every day. Set in a very quiet village that had no shop and only one pub that was closed on the monday and the kitchen was closed on the wednesday. The nearest supermarket is waitrose. The carthouse is a quaint little converted barn, which we felt was a little tired looking, needs some updating. So much more could be done to give it the wow factor. If you don't like birds, insects bugs or spiders this place wont be for you. Also there was no BBQ there which was stated.

Outside untidy (too many weeds) Grass too long in garden. Patio furniture green with algae. Unattractive view of block wall. Overall lounge area dark (2 bulbs not working) Towel holder would be useful by sink in bathroom. Generally towels needed renewing. Bedroom curtains poor quality. Hot water ran out and had to use kettle for washing up. Overall a bit tired and not value for money.

Our very nice host gave us very good advice about an accessible place to visit, helped us with minor practical problems, and even gave us bulbs of the native English bluebell all though she was in mourning. That was absolutely outstanding.

My wife and I had a lovely time staying at the Carthouse. Nice walks, secluded with a friendly pub, with good food nearby. Nice enclosed garden to let our dog out without worrying. Phone signal not great, but hey, the idea is to get away. Wi-Fi very good though. We had a very nice relaxed time.

The owner, Jan, came to greet us, which we appreciated. She made a comment about the cleaner not having put the heating on. In fact, the cottage was freezing! This wasn't the best start to a winter break. A nice touch would be to at least make sure the chill has been taken off. The cottage looks lovely in the photographs, but it seems they were taken some time ago. The property is tired-looking and dated, and could do with bathroom and kitchen fittings, some furniture, and tableware being renewed and updated. When we read previous reviews, we realised that some issues (eg. Heated towel rail in bathroom not working) had been raised, but, apparently, not dealt with. Whilst not a 'dirty' home, there were aspects which do need attention - cobwebs, stained bedlinen, with dog hairs on the sheet, and towels which smelled as though they had already been used, to mention just a few things. The feather quilt was lovely and warm, but we felt that the short, light cotton curtains were inadequate for winter. Whilst we realised beforehand that the cost of heating was not included, we had no idea how much to budget for this. The arrival information notes stated that the oil costs 0.60 per unit, which still was meaningless to us. Whilst it's true that everyone has different heating needs, we feel sure that the cottage is too cold for anyone to completely do without heating. If the costs were stated up-front as 'average so-much per hour with showers every day, and radiators kept on...’, this would make it possible for potential renters to make a more-informed decision. Better still, why not increase the price of the rental to include heating during the winter?

It was a great relaxing break. The only major disappointing aspect was the Talk Talk wifi. It basically didn't work. We could connect to it but it couldn't connect to the internet. We tried everything we could think of to get it working to no avail. So DON'T expect wifi even though it is advertised as having it. The kettle was full of limescale so we descaled it after popping to the shops and buying a descaler. Also the shower was very weak. Apart from that it was an ok time out for us.

Great location for country walks with dog and the bonus of having a nice local pub - Rose & Crown within easy walking distance. :-)

Is a really nice place to stay, lovely living room and plenty of space. Has everything you will need. Only thing we were surprised at was having to pay for the heating on top of the rental fee

Overall we were happy with the Carthouse. Facilities met all of our needs and the location was great. However we found the mattress uncomfortable and the buzzing noise from the meter on the wall in the bedroom irritating as it kept us awake.

The Carthouse was very nice, shame there was road works throughout our stay which was nothing to do with the owner. Everything was very good very quiet, the only thing that we didn't like very much was the shower as the water didn't drain away very well

The garden was perfect for our dog and secure. Cottage was clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. It was homely and both beds were comfortable. Parking and access excellent. Lots to see and do. A couple of negatives, the washing machine and dryer were not in the cottage, and were not free. This I felt should be in the details. The washing line in the garden was unusable. Also the heated towel rail was broken when we arrived and when we reported it, were told it wouldn't be fixed during our stay and they knew. Only way to keep towels dry during the week was to use the dryer which we still had to pay for.

Although we really enjoyed our stay in the cart house it would really benefit from an update in the kitchen and bathroom and perhaps a little more general maintenance.’”

Many years ago no doubt the cottage was very attractive but it is rather tired looking .The information given needs updating. It in the details, washing m/c, tumble drier but they are not in the apt. ,thay are elsewhere and there is a charge. The terraced garden photography is clever as your immediate view is a demolished building and it's foundation. Privacy level is limited although it is very quiet and peaceful
