    > A splendid holiday property set in magnificent gardens; first-prize holder in the Daily Mail 1995 National Gardens Competition, and featured in several publications including Homes and Gardens, The Sunday Times, The English Garden and Homes & Antiques as well as television’s Out and About series. Situated just off the cobbled square in Richmond and with countryside views, it possesses tremendous character, style and space. The restored Coach House is separately set within the shared gardens of the owner’s home, which are open to the general public between April 1st - October 31st. The ancient town of Richmond, at the gateway to Swaledale, has an unfinished 11th-century castle and an excellent market place. The town is a hive of activity, offering a theatre, shops, inns, restaurants and a host of other town amenities. A riverside footpath leads gently to Easby Abbey, with some parts still remaining. Other historic and religious sites in the area include Bolton Castle, Jervaulx Abbey and Coverham Abbey. Within driving distance are Scotch Corner and Catterick (once the home to a Roman camp), and Kiplin Hall is well worth a visit. Ripon is home to Fountains Abbey, Britain’s largest and most beautiful monastic ruin which has the added bonus of being the focal point of Studley Royal, an 18th-century landscaped garden complete with lake, temples, water garden and deer park. The scenic splendour of the Dales is easily accessible, providing good walking, cycling and riding terrain.
A little further afield are the bustling Tyne towns of Newcastle and Durham, both excellent for their great shops, markets, restaurants and bars. Durham is also famous for its majestic 12th-century cathedral, medieval castle and university – the third oldest in England. Below the castle and cathedral are the wooded banks of the River Wear, where riverside walks can be enjoyed, passing a succession of elegant bridges with fine vantage points over the town. Shops 200 yards.

Great place. Stunning garden. Very easy access to town and riverside. Very helpful proprietors. For a serious culinary stay (which ours wasn't) some additional kitchen equipment could assist. Fitted exactly our needs but no idea on vfm.

Perfect accommodation and location for our family weekend in Richmond. The accommodation has an unusual layout but all bedrooms being en suite is a great advantage. We would certainly consider a return visit.

We all had an absolutely fabulous time at The Coach House in Richmond. Location really near the waterfall was excellent and the property was outstanding. The award winning garden was a great place to chill out in the great weather we had. All bedrooms were very comfortable and the living room on the top floor was nice as well. Would easily recommend this cottage to anyone which is a few minutes from the cobbled square of Richmond which a diamond of Yorkshire town.

The Coach House needs a really good clean from top to bottom. It is a big property with lots of nooks and crannies, carpets, cupboards, wardrobe areas, kitchen cupboards, high ceilings and roof lights. There were a lot of cobwebs, dust and run-down equipment in the kitchen. The final straw for our group was the discovery of an infestation of moths and a spider's nest in one of the curtained off, carpeted, wardrobe alcoves in a bedroom. Apart from that we had a wonderful holiday in a house that could be amazing. The garden is a huge asset. The location is very good. It's close to the centre of Richmond which is accessed by a set of steep steps just along the road and it's very handy for the North Yorkshire Moors and Dales. There is lots of space in the house with the five bedrooms and plenty of communal areas. Soundproofing is also an issue.

The cottage has a large living room for everyone to get together. Having en-suite facilities in all the rooms was wonderful although some are a little tired. Great location but you need to be prepared for the steep climb into the centre of Richmond.

The Coach House is a great place to stay, perfectly located in the picturesque town of Richmond, boasting beautiful scenery, walks, and plenty of amenities. I booked this cottage for a meet up with friends, consisting of 4 couples. The cottage has a unique and interesting layout, with the living / dining room at the top of the house, and the kitchen at the bottom. There are five bedrooms, each with an ensuite containing a shower, and two that have baths, too. Two of the en suites have been recently renovated with new walk in showers. There is also a separate WC downstairs. Be aware that the walls are pretty thin - my husband's snoring was heard by friends down the corridor! The kitchen has a large oven, a dishwasher (tablets provided), and plenty of crockery and pans. The only thing lacking was large bowls/ serving dishes - when catering for eight each night we certainly missed these! The living / dining area is a huge room, and was perfect for eating together and playing board games / charades etc together in the evening. The sofas and arm chairs are all really comfortable. An extensive selection of jigsaws is hidden in the coffee table, one of which we enjoyed completing over the course of our stay. Off road parking is available - we had three cars which fitted fine in the courtyard - any more than this would have been tricky, I think. Contrary to previous reviews, we were not charged for gas usage, and were left a note to tell us that it was included in the price of the cottage. At one point, we noticed a leak in one of the bedrooms. Within an hour of contacting the owner, the plumber had been and gone and the leak was fixed! We were so impressed with how quickly this was resolved. While the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedding were clean, I will agree with other reviewers in that this property is lacking cleanliness in some areas. It is mainly dust in corners etc. - the place is in need of a deep clean, and I suspect that this has not been carried out for a few years. A few crockery items at the back of the cupboard were 'fusty' and stained, and had to be cleaned before use. However, considering the other excellent points, the reasonable price, and fantastic location, this did not discourage us, and we are very likely to return to this cottage on our next group holiday.

Positives: Lovely cottage in a great location, very spacious & ideal for a group of 10. Each bedroom having an en suite was fabulous though the ground floor bedroom was cold & a bit dark. Loved the additional fridge & sink etc on the second floor beside the sitting room it saved us going to the kitchen on the ground floor every time we wanted a drink! Negatives: The decor & furniture were a bit old fashioned & it wasn't very clean in places, cobwebs, frayed carpets, dirty bin in the kitchen, behind the radiator in the living room was disgusting.

Great location. Lovely, quirky building. Really needs a good clean. Cob webs all over. The main kitchen and bathroom facilities were clean though.
