We couldn't have had a nicer October break only a short drive away from where members of the family live - in Gateshead and Co Durham. We like being outdoors and having somewhere cosy to come back to at the end of the day so the Coachman's cottage was perfect. It's right on the Pennine Way and the South Tyne Trail. When we weren't out and about we lit the fire, cooked, read and did the jigsaws. Having the Spar just around the corner meant one of us could always run out for missing ingredients or logs. We had everything we needed in the cottage. It was spotlessly clean, well equipped and homely. I have already recommended it to friends.

    Excellent weekend away.

Lovely clean and comfy cottage. The beds were really comfy, hence we slept in most mornings.great location, many scenic walks on the doorstep and easy drive away from Lakes and Hadrian's Wall.

We loved our stay at The Coachman’s Cottage, as did our Poodle. The welcome pack with treats for Flynn was appreciated, as was our bottle of wine! Apart from visits to Killhope Lead Mining Museum (recommended) and Epiacum Roman fort we walked everywhere - so much of interest in the area. If you’re interested in old buildings as I am, Alston has plenty, what a great little town. The cottage itself was beautifully fitted out and welcoming, particularly after a wet walk. We enjoyed meeting owners Brian and Tricia would happily stay there again

Cosy cottage, great location and stunning scenery for relaxing and walking the dog.

Lovey cottage set in the village of Alston. Great for long walks! The cottage itself was well equipped, clean and comfortable. Parking a big car can be a little challenging but manageable none the less. We loved our stay at the Coachmen’s Cottage and hope to return again soon. Thank you. Highly recommended!

If you want a comfy warm well located and attractive cottage then look no further We stayed 4 nights 2 couples and a Springer spaniel and loved every minute Log burner was an added treat The owners were very friendly and helpful Would definitely stay again

The cottage looks very idyllic and description reasonable. The double bed was uncomfortable and not one good night's sleep was had. Previous guests had even commented to the same effect in the Visitors Book. Half a cooked chicken meal was found in the oven! The log fire needed constant attention to keep it going. The central heating was controlled by the owners by 'Hive' and the overide button needed to be in constant use. All internal doors (most were gates) were fitted with gate latches. This was not necessary for the cottage 'feel'.The door to the main bedroom was the original door but fitted with a latch that was difficult to engage when leaving the room.Difficult to be quiet if someone wished to remain sleeping. Car parking was a joke! Just enough room to carefully park a average car by the front door, cottage and small garden wall which meant the car was very near the edge of the small pavement area, where passing vehicles needed to keep in close as this position was on a slight blind bend at the top of a hill. Other parking is available just up the road which I felt was not safe especially in a poorly lit area. To say the least my wife and I were very disappointed. I would like to know if the owners have actually tried living in their own holiday cottages?

Lovely cottage in a good location. Even though the parking was tight we managed to park our 4x4 in the space available. The cottage is clean and well equipped, but the bed and lounge furniture were a little uncomfortable, the single beds were more comfortable. Great dog walking country. The cottage garden was safe and ideal for our small dog. Overall we would stay at the cottage again, but in the warmer months of the year when we could enjoy the surroundings more.
