We had a great time at the cottage. Four adults and 1 baby stayed and we found it ideal for our needs and a good base to explore the Yorkshire dales. The house was exceptionally well set up for our 18 month year old daughter, with many toys, a travel cot and a stair gate available for us to set up if needed. Would highly recommend.

    Perfect cottage.

The cottage is clean, comfortable, and particularly well-equipped, especially in the kitchen that has a good range of good quality cooking resources, including sharp knives, plates of all sizes, and there is a radio in the kitchen area. The conservatory catches the sun from mid morning onward and is a great space for relaxing. The cottage is ideal for families, as there is a range of toys, games, and children's books, as well as large TV and DVD player, with a good range of films, for both adults and children, to view. The beds are comfortable, and the village, Whorlton, is a quiet, peaceful and friendly place, with walks directly from the cottage, or within easy driving distance. The Tee Valley is a relatively unknown part of northern Britain, and certainly deserves to be 'discovered' - the walks along the upper Tees valley are beautiful. We enjoyed our stay at the cottage and will return. There are only two drawbacks - and the second of these may not be for some; it certainly wasn't for us. The first are the low beams in the upper bedroom - a tall person will have to watch their head; the second is absence of internet connection in the cottage, although their is an adequate signal for the more up to date smartphones. The cottage is also a very convenient point for visiting other nearby towns, obviously Barnard's Castle, but also Richmond, Leyburn, and Darlington; York &Harrogate are only an hour's drive away, too.

Our mid-August, two-week stay was excellent. The cottage was extremely comfy, which, with its West-facing conservatory and (spacious) kitchen, provided the focus for most of our evenings and afternoons. The East-facing front (lounge) was big and inviting when it got dark. The village is extremely quiet and the views of the Milky Way were spectacular at night. The location is excellent for day-trips into the Dales either by bike or car (we did both) or for walks along the Tees river nearby, or rivers emanating from the Dales foothills. The Fernavilles Rest pub just 150 m away provided good culinary respite too.
