The Cottage is a charming single storey white-washed stone cottage situated in the quiet hamlet of Achintee in the heart of Wester Ross. Surrounded by hills, the Loch Carron sea loch and open countryside and enjoying quiet seclusion in its well established cottage gardens, it provides an ideal base for two. Originally a traditional crofter’s cottage, it has (in 2015) undergone complete refurbishment throughout with a brand new kitchen, the latest appliances, free Wi-Fi and furnished to a very high standard. The Cottage has been attractively restored and renovated, whilst retaining a wealth of original features, such as an original open fireplace and  exposed stone wall in the lounge, stripped pine doors and beautiful wood-lined tongue and groove panelling in the bedroom. There is a large farmhouse-style kitchen/dining room and a modern bathroom. The Cottage looks out across the gardens to the hills and mountains beyond with nearby views of Loch Carron.

The small village of Strathcarron is approximately ¼ mile away and within easy walking distance. The small railway station is a halt on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh railway route; voted as one of the most scenic railway lines in the world. The surrounding area is renowned for its magnificent landscapes, incorporating mountains, rivers, lochs and sea. A paradise for lovers of the great outdoors, it offers unlimited sporting opportunities: climbing, hill-walking, fishing, canoeing, diving, sailing and mountain-biking are all available close by. There are some wonderful walks direct from the property, with miles of hills, riverside and forestry to explore, either on foot or by bike.

The nearby village of Lochcarron is particularly charming. Set right on the shores of the loch, surrounded by the spectacular hills and mountains of Wester Ross, Lochcarron is bounded by the sea-loch on one side and attractive cottages and houses that straddle the main street on the other. There are a number of pubs, cafes and shops here, as well as a golf course open to visitors which has a fantastic 9 hole golf course (12 tees) situated right on the banks of the loch with stunning views, open all year round. This club is over a hundred years old and is one of the most beautiful spots in the highlands, with a short but demanding course for all levels. A visit to the Carron pottery and restaurant, less than a mile away, is a must with fantastic crafts and renown food (open year round), with the seafood bar at Kishorn another culinary favourite which has won countless awards for its local sustainably sourced fresh seafood, 13 miles. Lochcarron Weavers, also based in Kishorn, stock a wonderful range of handmade tartans and luxury knitwear and are some of the finest in the whole of Scotland.

Cosy cottage just a bit far from Loch Carron to walk. A bit dark as garden could be doing with a real cut back. Clean comfortable especially the bed. Heating was on when we arrived nice touch.

The cottage is tucked away just off the main road, among a small group of other buildings, making it a very quiet location (but pretty easy to find and access). It's roomy, with a particularly spacious kitchen / dining room, and very well-equipped and nicely kept. The owners have even helpfully provided a range of local maps and information, including OS maps in case you've forgotten your own. There's a lovely, secluded little back garden, with the mountains to the north-west(ish) of Lochcarron in the distance as a backdrop. One note for fellow motorcyclists: the parking area is graveled - it's not particularly loose or deep, but you might want to bring a side-stand puck just in case.

The Cottage is a lovely, welcoming and comfortable place in an idyllic spot, in one of what I consider to be the most beautiful parts of the North West Highlands. With places like Lochcarron, Kishorn, Plockton, Applecross and Torridon within easy reach, each with its own selection of restaurants, cafes, galleries and craft shops, there is no shortage of things to fill the days. I will certainly be returning to this small corner of paradise again.

The cottage was excellent extremely well appointed and very much a home from home....we would definitely go back and enjoy this accommodation again. Local amenities at the time of our visit were mostly closed (New Year) so couldn't really rate but no reason to think that they wouldn't be as required (although keep in mind this is a very remote location). Used the cottage a s a base to go to Skye and the Applecross peninsular, very well located for both and the scenery is stunning.

I can’t recommend this cottage enough! It’s a great location for day trips to Skye and around the North West Highlands. It is secluded but not too far away from anyone else (or the local bar!). It is incredibly clean, and the kitchen has everything you need for preparing and cooking food. There is a nice welcome book that has really been thought of, it will tell you everything you need to know from how to work appliances to restaurants/shops near by. I would definitely stay here again!

Had a lovely time in this peaceful location. The cottage was wonderfully warm and cosy with comfortable furniture and bed. There was nothing cheap and cheerful with everything we needed (and more) of excellent quality. We certainly used the slow cooker and scales (my wife made both a fruit pie and a cake to warm us.) Well tended gardens front and back. We've stayed in places before in the autumn which have been let go and become overgrown and untidy. Not so this one as it was beautifully kept. The only two minor points for us were the shortage of accessible or nearby places to walk the dog off her lead though she loved a swim in the loch. This is mainly due to concerns for livestock or of course surprising a deer. The other point which isn't a really a showstopper, is the storage shed and yard directly opposite the cottage and the first thing you see when looking out of the kitchen window. It was never noisy, its just a bit of an eyesore. However all other windows look out across the garden towards the loch and mountains. All in all a lovely place to visit and I certainly recommend it.
