Accessed from a cobbled courtyard, part of the building dates back to the 1700s, and is of historical importance having once been the home of the Scottish naval officer, Samuel Greig, who in the 1700s was sent by the British Government to assist Catherine the Great with the Russian Navy. He became an Admiral and Commander of the Baltic Fleet and had great success in the battles of Chesme and Hogland. There is a plaque on the outside of the building placed by the Moscow Caledonian Club.
