Just 2 miles away is one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk, Orford. As well as the castle, Orford’s attractions include river cruises, three pubs, a renowned traditional bakery, a smokehouse and a restaurant; try the locally cultivated oysters. Woodbridge is again a pretty riverside town and offers an array of shops.
Further along the coast is Aldeburgh, a delightful town with an array of independent shops and fish stalls. Southwold, with its pretty coloured beach huts, lighthouse, shops and eateries, is home to Adnams Brewery. Close by is Walberswick, again with a lovely beach, and is a popular place to go crabbing. You can also catch a ferry across from Southwold. Dunwich Museum is the perfect history experience and tells the story of the city lost to sea.
