This is my personal view, no good for wheelchair users. Hard to get car up to side of house because of big hole., debris at side. Wheelchair could not get to door at back, I had to walk with two people helping me, very sore. We had to go early because I couldn’t keep going in and out, on the Wednesday I had to rest all day. If i had been able bodied I would have had a different outlook, also I didn’t like facing a 6 foot wall which is not your fault, midges are horrendous back with lots of spots. Jane

The Lodge is a beautiful place to stay. We were made very welcome and loved the little extras, fresh flowers, fresh eggs from the chickens and the ducks joined us in the garden every day. It is quiet and peaceful and is within easy distance of lots of interesting places to visit. Hopefully we will be able to visit again next year. Loved our holiday!

What a lovely way to spend two weeks! The spacious and very clean Lodge offered everything we could need during our stay. The kitchen is well equipped, the reclining settees and beds very comfortable. The internet and Sky reception were excellent. My husband's mobile worked well. Mine didn't, -down to the quality of my phone, as we are both on the same network. On arrival we were shown how to adjust the central heating if needed. (What happened to our summer?) We enjoyed the pure well water, which also ran fast and hot when taking a shower. The bottle of wine and eggs from Alison's hens were much appreciated. We loved the daily visits from the hens and geese. Alison is a lovely person and has become a friend to us. Nothing was too much trouble for her. The Lodge is in a very quiet location, close to the village. We were unable to enjoy the many walks through the Galloway forest due to my disability. However, we made the most of exploring the area by car. Out every day of our 2 week stay, we didn't visit the same place twice! The longest journey we took was 1 hour 20 minutes from the Lodge. So much to see and do! From National Trust properties (including Burn's cottage), to towns and tiny villages, many on the coast. We visited Wigtown, Scotland's answer to Hay-on-Wye. Heaven if you are a bibliophile! If, like us, you are 'foodies', you will enjoy the local produce. There are 2 Smokeries just outside Newton Stewart ,both with shops, one of which also sells fresh fish. One also has a restaurant (great food), -no licence, but it encourages customers to bring their own wine with no corkage charge. The butcher in Wigtown sells the best meat, all from named farms within a few miles of his shop. There are both gin and whisky distilleries just outside Newton Stewart offering tours, free tastings and shops. A micro-brewery can be found at a pub on Whithorn Island, which also serves good food. All this together with many other great restaurants and cafes meant that we were very happy bunnies! My husband and I can thoroughly recommend the Lodge, both as a place to stay and as a base to explore the area.
