• About The Old Coach House

Outdoor heated swimming pool At the foot of Grabbist Hill (NT) in the Exmoor National Park, these four beautifully furnished and well-equipped Grade II listed cottages are set in the grounds of 16th century Ellicombe Manor. Clustered around a cobbled courtyard they enjoy shared use of an outdoor heated swimming pool, with its own walled area and poolside furniture, and an acre of magnificent sub tropical gardens and 3-acre paddock offering views over the West Somerset Steam Railway and across the Bristol Channel to the Welsh coast. The gardens are a special feature of Ellicombe Manor, filled with mature palm trees, named exotic plants and shrubs and quiet corners with seating. Here, too, visitors may discover the ‘secret garden’ or enjoy a game of outdoor chess or other outdoor games.
A mile away, Dunster, with its famous castle, yarn market and pre Christmas candlelight shopping, offers a selection of pubs, shops, and restaurants. Minehead’s resort attractions, sandy beach and coastal path walks are also close by. Golf, river and lake fishing, horse riding and wonderful walking locally in Exmoor National Park and West Somerset Steam Railway weekends. One mile to the start of South West Coast Path.

Third visit which says it all, probably a fourth. Cannot find a single reason to critisise except no wi fi . ideal for dog owners, its .46 of a mile return from the house to the furthest boundary of the property. Seriously reccomended.

Ideal location with walking straight from the door in the hills above Dunster. Walking distance to Dunster & Minehead. Cottage was spotless and comfortable, gardens lovely and relaxing and pool was a bonus after getting back from a walk or day out. Pub 10 minutes walk. Owners very helpful with loan of a map and tools for fossil hunting on nearby beach. Already booked for next year.

Great location and easy to find. Good accommodation for the 2 of us, would have liked a slightly larger kitchen area but fine for the weekend and mostly eating out. We had a perfect weekend away.

This was a very nice cottage in a very good location. But .....I am afraid to say we would not stay there again down only to just one issue. As I was working I needed wifi and this was extremely poor to non-existent. I appreciate that most people on holiday would not be too concerned but this is the first of the many holiday cottages that we have rented that did not have it at a decent level.

The Old Coach house was warm, clean and comfortable. We were made very welcome by the owners who gave us a tour of the beautiful gardens. We would love to go back!

A lovely location. Holiday was made even better by the suggestions of drives, eateries etc by Keith, the owner. The only reason we would not return is because we like to visit different places. If our dog Alfie could return he would!!

We had a really lovely 5 day break at the old Coach House. The cottage is well equipped and a great base for exploring the surrounding areas (the map provided by keith was very much appreciated!) The grounds and swimming pool are lovely and well looked after and Rufus (our black lab) loved running freely around the secure paddock. There is plenty to do whether you want a quiet, relaxing break, a family getaway or a pet friendly holiday, there really is something for everyone to do. We would love to stay again and hope to return after our little one is born along with other family members for a break away. We will definitely be recommending to friends and family and anyone else that will listen!!

Welcoming hosts who enhanced the holiday experience. The swimming pool was fabulous after a day of walking and beautifully clean for an outdoor pool. Our 2 dogs had a great time charging around the garden and the meadow. The cottage itself had everything for our needs and the convenience of local shops enabled us to rustle up some excellent fare. We would stay here again
