• About The Old Coach House

Outdoor heated swimming pool At the foot of Grabbist Hill (NT) in the Exmoor National Park, these four beautifully furnished and well-equipped Grade II listed cottages are set in the grounds of 16th century Ellicombe Manor. Clustered around a cobbled courtyard they enjoy shared use of an outdoor heated swimming pool, with its own walled area and poolside furniture, and an acre of magnificent sub tropical gardens and 3-acre paddock offering views over the West Somerset Steam Railway and across the Bristol Channel to the Welsh coast. The gardens are a special feature of Ellicombe Manor, filled with mature palm trees, named exotic plants and shrubs and quiet corners with seating. Here, too, visitors may discover the ‘secret garden’ or enjoy a game of outdoor chess or other outdoor games.
A mile away, Dunster, with its famous castle, yarn market and pre Christmas candlelight shopping, offers a selection of pubs, shops, and restaurants. Minehead’s resort attractions, sandy beach and coastal path walks are also close by. Golf, river and lake fishing, horse riding and wonderful walking locally in Exmoor National Park and West Somerset Steam Railway weekends. One mile to the start of South West Coast Path.
All on ground floor: Living/dining room with vaulted ceiling and patio doors. Kitchen. 2 steps down to 1 double bedroom. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet.

On our arrival the owner welcomed us and gave a full tour of the grounds and made good suggestions for visits to the outstandingly beautiful countryside along with a map and the offer of binoculars - excellent The property was welcoming, well equipped and roomy. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would certainly like to come again Ruth and Ian (Abingdon)

Excellent cottage to stay in. The owners were more than helpfull with ideas for days out, where to eat and things to do. Could not fault anything about it. We even had an enclosed paddock to run the dog. We would definitely recommend and can't wait to return for another break.

Lovely cottage in beautiful settings. The hosts were lovely and pointed out where to go, what to see and provided us with an OS map with everything we needed marked. They also loaned us binoculars to use to view the scenery and wildlife from viewpoints around the location. The pool was lovely for a morning swim. Dog friendly in most places, with the exception of Minehead beach.

Third visit which says it all, probably a fourth. Cannot find a single reason to critisise except no wi fi . ideal for dog owners, its .46 of a mile return from the house to the furthest boundary of the property. Seriously reccomended.

Ideal location with walking straight from the door in the hills above Dunster. Walking distance to Dunster & Minehead. Cottage was spotless and comfortable, gardens lovely and relaxing and pool was a bonus after getting back from a walk or day out. Pub 10 minutes walk. Owners very helpful with loan of a map and tools for fossil hunting on nearby beach. Already booked for next year.

Great location and easy to find. Good accommodation for the 2 of us, would have liked a slightly larger kitchen area but fine for the weekend and mostly eating out. We had a perfect weekend away.

This was a very nice cottage in a very good location. But .....I am afraid to say we would not stay there again down only to just one issue. As I was working I needed wifi and this was extremely poor to non-existent. I appreciate that most people on holiday would not be too concerned but this is the first of the many holiday cottages that we have rented that did not have it at a decent level.
