• About The Old Fire Station

This carefully renovated old fire station offers spacious and well-appointed holiday accommodation in a fine position opposite a church just 1-mile from the sandy beaches and secluded coves of Combe Martin. A favourite destination for walkers, and location of the awesome cliffs of Great and Little Hangman, Combe Martin sits directly on the South West Coastal Path and famous Tarka Trail. Close by, to the east, visitors can enjoy dramatic hikes and spectacular views in the valleys and stunning scenery of the Exmoor National Park, also the setting for the twin coastal resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth, joined by their own cliff railway. To the west lie the picturesque village of Berrynarbor, Watermouth Cove and the traditional resort of Ilfracombe, great for fishing and boating excursions. The renowned golden sands of North Devon are within easy reach – Woolacombe, 10 miles, Putsborough, Croyde Bay and Saunton – all revered by surfers and the bucket and spade brigade alike. Barnstaple, a bustling harbourside town with a famous pannier market, offers boat trips to Lundy Island, and a wildlife and dinosaur park, zoological gardens, cycling, fishing, plenty of golf courses, horse riding, quad biking and even a steam railway are found locally. Beach 1 mile. Shops and a pub serving food are 5 minutes’ walk.

Really interesting, large and quirky property. Our group of 7 had plenty of room for an excellent long weekend away. A great location for exploring the area.

A lovely property although very tired and in need of a good clean, It is comfortable but we found some of the plates and pots and pans dirty and very dusty areas of the property with some interesting cobwebs! We were left fresh linen and this was all very clean as were the bathrooms (apart from a little shower unblocking)! The outlook over the local church was lovely. The parking is at the end of the garden and you need to climb two sets of steps to access the property through the garden so you need to be prepared to carry your bags in. Parking is just one space ( two if small cars)with a charge to park in the local car park, parking is very limited all around the area so to find a spot for free would be lucky. The walk to the beach is around 0.8 miles down a narrow main road so not suitable for dogs off a lead or children on bikes etc. The local area is lovely with some lovely places to visit and very beautiful scenery. Being just on the edge of Exmoor the places to visit are endless and its all very beautiful.

We've used this website many times & always review the property we stay at. This is the first time I have had to give a negative review! The first thing we noticed when we opened the door was the overpowering smell of bleach, so strong it got you in the back of the throat. The chairs in the dining area were covered in crumbs, the floor was dirty & the rugs were covered in stains. The kitchen window recesses had loads of cobwebs. The cooker oven dials were so worn you couldn't make out the temperature you needed to set. The 2 sets of French doors don't fit very well, & the wind blows through them (not good in autumn/winter). The mezzanine area was not used as the TV in it had the very top of the picture missing & a blank circle in the middle top of the screen. The banister at the bottom of the stairs was loose & when emptying the wardrobe I found a piece of mains cable sticking out of the wall with electrical tape wrapped round the end. The whole property was very tired & in need of some TLC & repair work. This is a shame as the place could be really good, although I'd sack the cleaner! I did contact the owner by text when an outdoor light fell of the wall & was left hanging by the electric cables. I didn't mention anything else as I was on holiday with my wife, our daughter & her family, 8 of us in all & as one of my grandsons is autistic, I wasn't prepared to upset him by waiting around for someone to come over & sort things out. Looking back at all the previous reviews this is not the first time someone has mentioned the lack of cleanliness, or the fact that the property is very tired looking, but the owner seems to think people are being "over fussy" rather than listening to them & taking their remarks on board! I noticed from one review that it was a 4 star property but is now 3 star, I would suggest only just!
