• About The Old Quarry Hospital

Perfect for year-round breaks, situated just 0.5 miles from the heart of the little slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, this property provides an impressive venue for large groups holidaying together. Created from the skilful conversion of the old hospital for quarry workers, it was built nearly 200 years ago and stands proudly above the town, boasting a smart, spacious and contemporary interior. Close by are Llechwedd Slate Caverns, where visitors can explore spectacular underground chambers, and the famous Ffestiniog Narrow Gauge Steam Railway for scenic journeys to the pretty little harbour town of Porthmadog. For the adventurous, the surrounding Snowdonia National Park offers exhilarating outdoor pursuits, whilst fine sandy beaches, championship golf and historic castle are in easy reach.

Such a fabulous cottage, had all the space we needed for 15 people and 1 dog :-) There were smells of damp throughout the house and also there are two massive freezers and one massive fridge, we felt it would make more sense to have two fridges and one freezer? On the first night a man told 3 of my friends off for the security light waking up people on the camp site, it was labelled the smoking area and we were not told of there being a curfew so this came as a surprise. He was very aggressive in his manner and threatened to evict us should the house be trashed?! This seemed odd and unnecessary. Asking politely would have been fine. Unsure if this was the owner or someone else. Other than that it was a really pleasant and wonderful stay. Perfect location for climbing. Snowdon, the bounce below and zip wire. Had a fantastic birthday :-)

Lovely place in a lovely setting but was let down by plates and cutlery etc that were dirty. The bbq had not been cleaned in a long time and was unusable in the state it was in. The property itself is lovely and spacious and we had a really enjoyable break there

13 of us gathered for a weeks holiday - Ages 7 - 88 plus 3 dogs! The house had plenty of space for us all and was very comfortable. The bedrooms were spacious and have plenty of storage space. Everything was very clean. Was worried with only 3 bathrooms but this didn’t prove to be a problem. The kitchen didn’t have the sort of equipment we normally see little things like a salad bowl, serving dishes or a measuring jug or scales but we managed! Also would have liked an outside clothes line or an inside clothes horse to hang the washing on. Our elderly guests struggled with the showers as there were no hand rails. So just a couple of niggles that did not in anyway spoil our holiday.

This was great accommodation and in a brill location. Not really many complaints but the two bedrooms downstairs are very cold and damp. Recently decorated perhaps because the mildew doesn't show too much but considering it was 28-30 degrees outside, I wore pj's for the first time in my life. Very cold!

The house is amazing, the hosts were phenomenal at making us feel welcome and making sure we had everything we needed. Not sure a bunk bed suits my 6’2” rotund frame - but someone had to get the short straw - would be an adventure for a group with kids though.

We had a great few days in the Old Quarry Hospital. It was ideal location for us near to family we were visiting. The size of the property meant we could have all our friends and family round for a barbecue and there was loads of room for everyone.

Super place to stay, the photos on line do not do the old place justice. Well equipt and a really social space. Perfect for large parties. Mr Jones and his family were fantastic too.

Absolutely brilliant , just what we needed , celebrated hubbys 60th with friends and family , went to snowdon and into Porthmadog via the heritage steam railway which we walked to in about 10 minutes. Lots of space for eating and entertaining and room for the dogs, lots of parking too. The owner was a lovely man who gave us lots of useful information and was really friendly..... loved everything

Extremely nice place to stay, quiet and comfortable. The only small minus were bunk beds for adults as some of them were a bit squeaky, so they didn't get a proper sleep. The fire place in the kitchen area wasn't as sufficient as we'd hoped, however we enjoyed a lot our stay here. Would return and recommend for sure!

We stayed here for a week in February with all our family - 8 adults, 7 children and a dog, there was plenty of space for everyone. It was cold and snowy whilst we were at the house but it was kept beautifully warm at all times. There was plenty of coal and wood for the log burner and in the kitchen diner there is an additional gas fire. The two big living rooms were a great asset with plenty of comfortable chairs and large televisions. Although the table only seated 10 there was a small additional table and extra chairs so the little ones could have their own table. A good washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher all made life easy for us. There was plenty of parking for our 4 cars and there is a good patio area with gate so safe for the children to play outside. Our overall impression of the house was very positive and would visit again.

Kitchen was not very clean we had to wash some plates before we used them dishwasher didn’t wash the plates etc properly.not very comfortable upstairs damp the walls were bare so it looked very clinical and uninviting beds were small quilts were not very warm .inthe bathroom the tap was loose and you couldn’t turn it off you couldn’t use the bath as the plug didn’t fit therefore the water ran out, stains on the carpet overall it needed a good decorate new stair carpet I feel the money we paid for this cottage was extremely overpriced for what we had!!

Excellent venue for large group/family. There is plenty of space for children to play. Excellent facilities. The owner was very polite and welcoming and really helped to get the family break off to a good start. Very highly recommended. The bedrooms were all comfortable. Blaenau Ffestiniog is within walking distance and a number of tourist attractions are within easy reach. Would definitely return.

We booked this for a group to celebrate a birthday. We had fun and the accommodation was excellent for us all ranging from 4 year old to 60+. Will definitely consider this accommodation for future events. Locally had bounce below/zip wires, train into Porthmadog and only down the road for Portmerion
