    The Old Railings, a detached, modern house that takes advantage of ’upside-down living’, is a great base for those of you looking for a large spacious property in Cornwall located by the sea.
    Three double bedrooms are found on the ground floor, bedroom 3 has bunk beds, bedroom 4 has an en-suite shower room, and also on the ground floor is one of the contemporary family bathrooms.
    Upstairs in the large relaxing living room, which enjoys expansive views across the ’Galowras Mill’ valley, is a TV and DVD player. Alternatively, there is a second open plan cosy living room having original Ercol furniture, which leads through French doors to the spacious rear patio.
    The open plan kitchen/dining room is furnished with all the appliances one would need to cook your locally caught fish supper and enjoy together around the large 12-seater family table. Two further bedrooms are situated on this level, including the master bedroom with an en suite and dressing room, and a second family bathroom.
    Easterly views out to sea can be enjoyed from the large, enclosed rear garden where you can also relax on the decked areas with a drink or dine al fresco.
    Set in Portmellon (Cornish for ’mill cove’), The Old Railings is just a short walk from the sandy beach, from where kayaks are easily launched, making this a perfect base for those looking for a coastal activities holiday. Bygone times are in evidence within the quadrangle of the cove; an 18th-century pub a meeting place for many a bootlegger, ancient ’fish cellars’ and a renowned 19th-century boat-builder.
    Nearby, the historical fishing village of Mevagissey is worth visiting with its many restaurants offering fresh locally caught fish on their menus, together with atmospheric pubs and gastro tearooms in which to sample a Cornish cream tea.
