Originally built in 1867, the Old School House has many original features, making it the perfect getaway for anyone seeking a unique stay and ideal for families or couples alike. The Gothic wooden front door welcomes you into a spacious hallway that houses coats and shoes. Leading directly from here is the large formal dining area with feature open fire and a large bookshelf offering an array of board games and books for entertainment. The inner hallway leads to a large traditional living room with wood burner, comfortable seating, and a Smart TV. The original Gothic style windows are the highlight of this room. There is also a spiral staircase leading to a galleried landing where the kids can hang out. A large kitchen/dining conservatory is also found on the ground floor, offering uninterrupted views of the impressive gardens. Granite worktops and a traditional Aga complete the country-style kitchen. In addition to farmhouse dining tables and chairs, the room is furnished with comfy sofas and chairs, the perfect place to relax in after a long day exploring. For convenience, there is a washing machine and microwave in the utility room across from the kitchen. Upstairs there’s a large double bedroom with storage and dressing table area plus an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom, has two single beds and also benefits from an en-suite bathroom. Outside, the magnificent garden is mainly laid to lawn. There’s a couple of seating areas to choose from, where you can enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of your favourite tipple while taking in the far reaching views of the surrounding countryside. To the front of the property there’s private parking for two cars and a log store.
Barbon is a small, picturesque village to the north of Kirkby Lonsdale. Situated in the Yorkshire Dales, it provides a perfect base to explore both here and the Lake District. The village was the childhood home of the poet Catherine Grace Godwin who died here in 1845 and is the location of Barbon Manor Speed Hillclimb. The village is also host to the The Barbon Inn, in the centre of the village, built as a coaching inn in the 17th century. Ten minutes’ drive away, Kirkby Lonsdale itself is a historic, quaint market town with a growing reputation for high quality independent shopping, as well as excellent restaurants, cafés and bars. The town is notably home to the 14th-century Devil’s Bridge, as well as Ruskin’s View. With so much to see and do in the area, you can choose to keep yourself busy or perhaps simply relax and enjoy the peace and beauty that Kirkby Lonsdale has to offer.
Heading east is the popular village of Ingelton also set in the Yorkshire Dales, where you’ll find an indoor climbing and bouldering wall, cycle pump track, outdoor swimming pool and children’s riverside play area. There are many walks in the area, including the famous Waterfalls Trail and Whitescar Caves. There are independent shops to explore including the award winning ’Seasons Bakery’ selling artisan cakes and bakes. You will be spoilt for choice for places to eat and and drink too, Ingleton has an abundance of pubs, cafés, bars and restaurants including a cosy and quirky microbar.
