’Clarabel’ is one of two luxury Plankbridge Lodge shepherd’s huts found within the beautiful North York Moors National Park; a designated Dark Sky Reserve, one of only a handful in the world! Midway between the towns of Helmsley and Thirsk, these lodges are perfect for two people looking for a romantic or active break surrounded by some of the UK’s most stunning scenery.
Clarabel can be found nestled under a re-appropriated Dutch barn. Step inside to a traditional shepherd’s hut interior which provides a wood burner for the cooler winter months. The country-style kitchen is a delight; home cooked meals can be enjoyed at the dining table opposite. The kingsize bed is tucked away at one end, and the house shower room at the other. Hand made oak shutters provide a dark nights sleep. A TV with DVD player is provided for your entertainment. As there is no TV signal due to the location, a selection of DVD’s is provided along with some great board games, including Scrabble and dominos. The outside area is covered; with seating, a BBQ/fire-pit and Ofuro hot tub. Enjoy the exceptional starry nights that the North York Moors National Park is famous for. The local deer graze around the shepherd’s hut and you may will also see owls and buzzards. A babbling stream runs along the back of the shepherds’ huts which adds to the ambiance.
If you can tear yourself away from this delightful base, then this area offers miles of walking and cycling opportunities, straight from your door. The area is famous for its great restaurants and pubs. Treat yourself to a delicious meal at The Black Swan in Oldstead 1.3 miles), a Michelin starred restaurant owned by renowned chef Tommy Banks. His new venture The Abbey Inn is only 2 miles away. Or walk through the woods (2 miles) to The Stapylton Arms which James Martin said had the best scampi in the UK. Head out for the day and explore the ‘Jewel in Yorkshire’s Crown’, Helmsley, with its central market place surrounded by independent shops, tea rooms and restaurants, or perhaps spend some time in Thirsk, known as the birthplace of James Herriot. The ancient walled City of York is a mere 40-minute drive away, whilst the coast and popular seaside town of Whitby is just over an hours’ drive. Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, wild life watching, forest bathing or golfing, or just wish to relax, unwind and enjoy being surrounded by stunning scenery, this shepherd’s hut is the perfect base for your Yorkshire break.
These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 4 guests.
