Hoseasons "Passing through fields and woodland to the secluded Shooting Lodge yet Shrewsbury and Ludlow are both nearby. \nLocation\n You will discover a piece of British history at Acton Scott for it achieved national fame as the setting for BBC2’s hit TV series \nVictorian Farm\n acknowledging the Acton family’s championing of sustainable practices. It has been followed by another Acton Scott-based BBCTV series \nEscape in Time\n new for 2010 and presented by Ben Fogle.\nGuests can enjoy a memorable setting and a multitude of activities on this lovingly preserved estate including the Historic Working Farm - where the land is worked with heavy horses to preserve a way of life before the age of the tractor. This visitor attraction is a firm favourite with families. There’s the handy School House café open April to October and lovely guided walks and cycle rides.\nThe prettiest market towns and traditional country pubs are all close at hand. Including Shrewsbury to the north on the banks of the River Severn and Ludlow to the south in its medieval castle setting. This is a food paradise with Michelin star restaurants and artisan shops galore. The spectacular Stretton Hills and Welsh Marches offer riding cycling and walking. Among the many nearby sites are Attingham Park the famous Ironbridge Gorge and its many museums the castles of Powis and Stokesay and Wroxeter Roman city.\nBut if you simply cannot tear yourself away from Acton Scott the finest local produce and home prepared meals can be delivered to your holiday house with a la carte catering available to pre-book for special occasions.\nThe Shooting Lodge is one of three holiday houses at Acton Scott. Henley Farmhouse is a finely restored detached character property in its own extensive grounds sleeps up to 20 ref RJJ3. Henley Cottage an authentic Victorian farm labourer’s cottage as seen on TV sleeps 4+1 ref ROO4. All three Acton Scott properties may be rented together or individually to accommodate the needs of larger parties.\nNearby and three miles to the east of Shrewsbury Rupert Acton is also the custodian of Cronkhill Farmhouse on the National Trust’s Attingham Park estate. A spacious 17th century timber framed property with spectacular views towards the River Severn it sleeps up to 14 see property ref RN5.\n\n\nFor more information about Acton Scott visit www.actonscott.com\n \n \n\nElec and full oil CH inc \n\nElec oil rad in log cabin\n\nCot\n\nHchair\n\nTV\n\nMwave\n\nDwasher\n\nFfreezer\n\nLarge garden with patio sitting-out area and furniture\n\nShop 2 miles\n\n\n \u003e A finely restored and spacious character property situated in its own private grounds commanding uninterrupted views across open parkland towards Wenlock Edge. \n\nApproached by a track that winds through fields and woodland The Shooting Lodge dates to the mid 18th century and occupies an idyllic position in a picturesque estate landscape unchanged for two centuries. Arrived in the afternoon and was welcomed in and shown what was what, the property is lovely just like surrounding and on its own no other people about, there is always wildlife around, at night the sky’s are amazing as there is no light pollution, walks straight from the house, plenty to see and do with a short drive, pubs and shops a short drive away, we had a couple of issues that was quickly sorted out, a top holiday, we will be back.

We've just returned from a lovely weekend at The Shooting Lodge as a family celebrating my father's 80th birthday. The property is beautiful and so full of character and history. Some of the rooms are perhaps a little dated now (bathrooms and little kitchen area) but that pales into insignificance compared to the rest of the house, gardens and little cabin outside. The views are fantastic too. Just a walk away from Acton Scott historic working farm which is well worth a visit. Such a lovely, unique holiday home...thoroughly recommend!

The place was perfect for a friends weekend away and felt like a really unique find. The area around is stunning and there are good walks from the door.

We had a lovely week at the shooting lodge. It is a rustic rural retreat set in beautiful countryside. The stars are amazing on a clear night. The dining/living room is super for a large family. The kitchen is large but could do with some up to date equipment. The bedrooms are all pretty. The working farm is a must to visit and there are some great towns to visit - Ludlow was our favourite with the castle. It is a Friday to Friday let so be aware as it still comes up as available even if you put Sat to Sat dates in (this caught me out).

Have stayed several times. Although the house is 'well worn', the location and privacy cannot be beaten. Great for dogs and kids. Poor mobile signal is a blessing.

A large quirky house in a lovely setting in a superb area. Don't holiday here if you want a shop within walking distance or if you don't like it being pitch black outside after the sun goes down. Do go if you like proper countryside, rabbits and hares in the garden, a wonderful view of the stars at night, an open fire and absolute silence. The only thing that let the Shooting Lodge down was that although superficially it was fine, it could have done with a deep clean as some surfaces definitely hadn't been touched for quite a while.
