Step into the life of an 18th century coachman in these historic apartments set in House of Dun’s original stable block which was built to accommodate the grooms who would have kept the Laird’s horses in shining condition. North Stables ref 30189 and South Stables ref 30190 each with their own separate entrance are stylishly furnished and lie off a picturesque sandstone courtyard in the grounds of the House of Dun an exquisite Georgian mansion designed and built by William Adam in 1730 for David Erskine 13th Laird of Dun. Highlights of House of Dun include its saloon with elaborate ornate plasterwork by Joseph Enzer and 800 acres of grounds. Dog owners will have hours of fun on the estate’s woodland walk while some of the more curious features of the house include its model theatre room and unusual 19th century ’boot-bath’ in Mrs Erskine’s bedroom. Both apartments make an ideal base from which to explore Montrose and the surrounding area. Nearby Montrose is a bustling town with a prosperous history dating back to the 10th century. Today there are excellent shopping facilities as well as sandy beaches both in town and nearby at St Cyrus and the magnificent Lunan Bay. The Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre is a haven for birdwatchers. With terrain including mud flats salt marsh sea water and fresh water it’s notable for oystercatchers eiders and pink-footed geese as well as plant life. Local salmon fishing is available on the River South Esk by arrangement and The Angus Glens offer a real treasure trove of hill walking. If you fancy a change of scenery the Angus coastline provides another dimension in walking with miles of sandy beaches or rugged coastlines. This is an area rich in historical and cultural gems. With much to offer in world class sporting and leisure activities there is championship golf at Carnoustie now synonymous with internationally renowned golfing destinations like St Andrews and Gleneagles. Beach 3 miles. Shop pub and restaurant 4 miles.\n" https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/853/{pixelwidth}/853065.jpg 30190

Excellent time spent at South Stables over the Xmas period. The accommodation is very spacious and warm, everything has been thought of from a very pleasing power shower, copious amounts of bed linen and towels and access to great walks on your doorstep, great for dog owners. Only two minor faults, a half size fridge was difficult to cope with over Xmas and although wi-fi is available it is not very strong downloading at 3mbs. My wife and I will definitely book again.
