Visitors here will soon find that this wonderful area is filled with a profusion of things to see and pursuits to enjoy from walking in the beautiful Grizedale Forest and on the Langdales and going pony trekking to participating in the water sports and launch trips on nearby Windermere and Coniston Water. However you choose to spend your time any of these four cosy and comfortable cottages make an ideal holiday base to come back to. The Lake District itself hardly needs any introduction. In addition to the choice natural scenery amongst some of England’s finest there are also lots of interesting ‘man-made’ attractions to visit some more publicised than others. Why not start with the picturesque village of Hawkshead which is ½ mile away. Beatrix Potter’s former home Hill Top National Trust lies near Sawrey whilst The Wordsworth Museum in nearby Grasmere occupies Dove Cottage which the poet William Wordsworth made his home between 1799 and 1808. There are also many National Trust properties in the vicinity from the magnificent Levens Hall to the tiny Old Bridge House at Ambleside. The cottages are attractively furnished and fully equipped with sealed window units a storm porch and Tarn Cottage ref NP57 is specially designed for use by visitors with some degree of physical handicap and includes feature such as low level light switches grab rails and a shower seat. Each has their own furnished patio area and all have access to a front lawn which is the ideal venue for children and adults to socialise and play. Locally there are plenty of pubs and restaurants any of which are perfect for spending a relaxing evening in. Stabling for 2 horses is available on request.\n" https://img.chooseacottage.co.uk/Property/787/840/787766.jpg B6491

A fantastic base for a family holiday. Stunning situation, and a wealth of beautiful walks from the door. Lovely to be able to walk into Hawkshead for provisions/pubs/cafes/ice-creams. The house was very comfortable and the owners were very generous with heating and logs (if needed). All the bathrooms were nice and the plumbing worked well.

We had a lovely family holiday at The Farm House. The location is great and plenty of space for the kids to play outside. What lets it down is that whilst the house sleeps 10, there are only 8 chairs around the dining table and 7 chairs in the lounge. The outside seating only accommodates 8.

The scenic front view of the Farm House was breathtaking. If you are looking for a calm, quiet place to breath fresh air, the Farm House could be your ultimate choice. The Coniston Water (one of the most picturesc lakes in the district), the Windermere, Ambleside (also for boating) and the Grasmere are all within easy reach! So literally you can have a good coverage of Lake District staying in the Farm House! We were three families (6 adults + 4 kids) staying for our summer holidays. The five-bedroom farm house could accommodate even more! Our kids had great plays in the front yard.

This was our third visit. Perfect location, stunning views, lovely home. Would definitely return for a forth visit. Could benefit from extra seating in lounge to accommodate every guest and a curved mirror to main gate/road.

Love this cottage as a family we have been coming here for 11 years. Weather was good this year so could have done with deckchairs ? Cosy, clean and really close to all the places we love. Lovely walk through the lambs to get to Hawkshead village

We had an amazing week in the Farmhouse, 2 families with mix of children from 14-10 months! Lovely location and facilities brilliant. Great games evenings teaching the children a bit of roulette on the amazing poker table...announcing there was a Nintendo wii in a box in the cupboard as we were packing them in the car was hilarious!! Walks and paths all over the place but likewise sitting watching the views is equally as satisfying! Working out when to return now! Shower wasn’t the most powerful but it cleaned us all including 3 smelly teenage boys!!

We booked Thompson Ground one year ago to make sure we could have it at half term for 8 adults, one child and a baby. It exceeded our expectations and was warm , comfortable and well-equipped. Walks, pubs and activities in the area are great and we would gladly go again if we could manage to get us all together. The location is stunning and very quiet. Look out for deer in the field in the early morning.

Spacious, comfortable farmhouse in a row of cottages. Well-furnished, and with stupendous views. Plenty of parking, and with proper Lake District (i.e. not grotty Bowness) all around. Even touristy Hawkshead survives the throngs. Three good LD pubs, and the weirdest (?) cafe in the Lakes. Only go in if you like breathing cat dust.
