Parking is located directly next to the entrance to the properties and is suitable for more than 1 car. Adorned with fine fixtures and fittings period features and beautiful antique furniture they are an ideal base from which to explore for those looking for either a break outdoors in stunning countryside or to soak up an abundance of cultural and artistic interest. Famous for its opera house which has a spectacular auditorium and its diverse and varied architecture Buxton itself has a large selection of boutique and independent shops craft and gift emporiums. There are cafés and coffee shops pubs bars artisan markets festivals and street food - and of course you are surrounded on three sides by the Peak District National Park. Beautiful walks can be enjoyed at Rushup Moor and cyclists can take advantage of the Tissington Trail. Bakewell is home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall Castleton has its caverns and the National Trust’s Lyme Park the Roaches the Monsal Trail and even Alton Towers are all just a short distance away.     A good base for central Buxton, in a quiet area close to amenities. The overall experience was good but a few little things we found would have made it excellent. There was no welcome from the host. We telephoned a couple of days before as requested and arrived on the day around 2.30. We rang the main house doorbell but got no reply. We tried the cottage door which was unlocked and found two sets of keys on the dining room table with a bottle of wine and some crisps. Throughout our stay we did not meet the host and also upon the day of departure we did not see our host. I found that a bit disapointing. The bedroom blinds are far too light and thin, light streams in from 4.30am so disturbed sleep from then on. We could not find any kitchen scissors which at times did make life hard, also no torch or first aid kit which are listed in the inventory and also check sheet folder on the desk in the lounge. We also left out on the kitchen drainer the cracked mug so as to point it out to the cleaner. A waste paper basket in the bedroom would be nice as all we had was the bathroom bin and kitchen bin. The final thing is the floorboards directly outside the bathroom door. This seems to have had some work done to it but screws sticking up should be addressed or a rug put over them. As I said these are all little things that once addressed will make people give a perfect score.

    A very comfortable cottage with all you need. Perfect location in Buxton opposite the Pavilion Gardens and a short walk to the local shops, restaurants and opera house. Excellent base to explore the Peak District. Owner was very helpful and some welcome treats on arrival. Will stay again- what more can we say!

    Lovely cottage. Very clean and comfortable. Has everything you need for a relaxing stay. This is our second visit to Thorneycroft and we look forward to going again. Excellent location for everything Buxton and the surrounding Peak District has to offer.

    Loved our week staying at Thorneycroft Cottage, everything was lovely and clean and made for a comfortable stay. Perfect location for both the North and South Peak District. Would love to return at some point!
