Tollgate Cottage is a former working Tollgate on the edge of the Market Town of Leek.
As you step in, the ground floor unfolds with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The well-designed kitchen, adjacent living room and dining room provide ample space for relaxation and shared meals, creating a cosy ambiance for gatherings with friends and family. Note, both the dining room and living room have wood-burning stoves for decoration only, not functional. Upstairs, the first floor unveils two good sized double bedrooms, one of which boasts an en-suite shower. A third bedroom, featuring a bunk bed with a small double on the bottom, is a great space for children to suit guests looking to bring the whole family. The family bathroom on this floor, with its double sink, cubicle shower and freestanding bath, is perfect for relaxing after a day walking in the Peaks.
The Cottage has a private drive with space to fit 3 cars. The enclosed garden features a patio and decking area overlooking a quiet field which includes a children’s play area, children’s football pitch and a small wood which are great to explore on a quick dog walk.
The Cottage is a great base to explore the Peak District with numerous country walks (and pubs) on your doorstep. Both Tittesworth Resevoir and the picturesque Roaches are just a 5 minute drive away, which are great places for a long walk, or even to enjoy a picnic whilst watching the sunset. You are also only 20 minutes drive from Alton Towers! It’s a 20 minute walk into Leek which boasts many independent shops, restaurants and pubs to explore. Please note this is a dog friendly cottage so whilst it’s professionally cleaned after each stay, we cannot guarantee that all dog hairs will be caught by the vacuum! It is also a 200-year-old cottage in the countryside, prone to spiders and cobwebs, so please be aware of this when booking.
The cottage is perfect for cosy nights in with friends, family and furry companions, so bring your slippers and dressing gowns to get into full comfort mode.

A lovely, cosy, quirky cottage, very conveniently located for Leek and on the edge of the Peak District. The beds were very comfortable with fresh white covers and everything was clean and tidy and in working order. The lounge area is particularly lovely for relaxing with a big comfy sofa. We would have appreciated more and better quality kitchen equipment -the frying pans have seen better days and we could have done with a standard baking tray and larger saucepans, but that is a minor quibble. I expect we are rare in that we do a lot of home cooking on holiday!

Just returned from a weekend at Tollgate Cottage. We’d booked it as we were attending a wedding a few miles away. The pictures don’t do it justice, it’s bigger than you think and has plenty of off road parking. The beds were really comfy and all made up with crisp white linen. We spotted the odd cobweb- but in a cottage this old it’s not an issue! We enjoyed it so much we are talking about booking it again to explore the area.

Lovely cosy cottage, extremely clean and welcoming. Good heating, beautiful kitchen and very convenient for local pubs and shops etc. Stunning short walk goes right from the door overlooking leek. The only problem we found was that you need to call a plumber! The en suite toilet doesn't refill after a flush without fiddling with the siphon, the an suite sink plug does not open, but worst there is a mysterious leakage of water under the toilet in the main bathroom and a strong smell of sewage... not great! You also have to watch it on the outside steps in wet weather - but that's a minor thing really for able bodied people and probably more beneficial for yourselves to sort it out before someone sues you...Get those things sorted and it really is a top class cottage.Next time we are visiting alton towers I would definitely consider coming back. Thanks!
