This is an ideal base for exploring the rugged north coast, including the sand dunes and long beach at Hayle Towans, 2 miles, that stretches up to Godrevy Island, and the long beach at Gwithian, popular with surfers. Walk the rugged coastal path to Portreath or visit Tehiddy Country Park with its 250 acres of bridle paths, woodland, wildlife ponds and cycle trails. The scenic coastal train runs from nearby St Erth to St Ives with its quaint harbour, beaches and winding cobbled streets filled with cafes, restaurants, shops and art galleries including the Tate Modern. It is just 30 minutes’ drive to the tranquil sailing waters of the south coast: visit Falmouth with its busy harbours for boat trips and the National Maritime Museum. For fun days’ out for the whole family, visit Paradise Park in Hayle, Flambard’s Theme Park in Helston or The National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek. Continue south to West Cornwall including Penzance with its open-air lido and St Michael’s Mount. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
