• About Treacle Den

Treacle Den and Treacle Cottage are two cosy little cottages ideal for couples looking for somewhere to get away from it all. Situated in the grounds of the owner’s home on a quiet lane in the countryside, both cottages are cleverly arranged for maximum privacy, ensuring a peaceful retreat. Within 100 yards of the cottages lies an excellent local pub that enjoys a superb reputation for its restaurant. Traditionally beamed, the pub takes its name, Botolph’s Bridge, from the local legends surrounding St Botolph, a 7th-century monk. There is an excellent selection of beaches to explore, all within 3 miles, and many beautiful walks including the Royal Military Canal which has recently seen improvements for walkers and cyclists. There are many local villages, gardens, museums, monuments and castles well worth a visit. The cottages sit conveniently within a few minutes’ drive of the motorway yet each enjoys a tranquil spot with countryside to the front and views of Lympne Castle across the fields to the rear. West Hythe is a tiny hamlet within 3 miles of Hythe, Dymchurch and Lympne. Set in a conservation area, with excellent local walks.
All on ground floor: Living room. Dining area/kitchen. 1 double bedroom. Shower room (no toilet). Separate toilet.
Oil CH inc. CD. F/freezer. Patio and furniture.

Cosy, quiet cottage with a pub, footpaths on the doorstep. Off road parking adjacent to the cottage. An excellent base for visiting the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway, Dungeness and towns of Rye and Canterbury and walking along the Royal Militiary Canal. Despite the cool weather, the cottage was always warm with an excellent shower and (very) hot running water. The cottage is clean, comfortable and maintained to a high standard. The kitchen facilities are adequate but we did not attempt any ambitious meals. My only disappointment would be the WiFi provision. It is very patchy and to be fair to the owner, they do not advertise its existence.

Generous welcome pack of food goodies and wine. Well equipped and very clean. Ideal for a couple. Park outside cottage. Good shower and single storey for mobility impaired. TV and radios worked well. Pity no WiFi.

A beautiful cottage, very comfortably furnished, apart from WiFi everything is there you need. Well thought out decor with a friendly owner. I would definitely recommend and would revisit if down this way again.

We had a lovely holiday at the Treacle Den. Thank you, Natalie, for your hospitality. We felt at home but then in another country. We had everything we needed, there was nothing that came into our minds oh I miss this or that. Only a soft bed but that was all. We adored the couch.
