Not as advertised, knew it was old so didn’t expect all mod cons but did not expect the stench of damp as you walked in. The seating was damp making it feel sticky, there were cobwebs and dust everywhere and a lot of flies. The promised garden was overgrown and full of rotting windfalls. The shower head was green with limescale. We had to find alternative accommodation as it was unlivable. On checking more recent reviews there are several saying the same about the stench of damp and cobwebs and dust. If you are thinking of going because it looks “quaint” think again.

on arrival we were shocked that the front door was padlocked and the back door was just bolted..once we entered the property the damp hit you as the smell was very strong..we would of expected this in winter but not in the summer...we understand that it is an old property and has a thatched roof but the cleanliness of the property was very poor as there were many many cobwebs and spiders and also moths in the curtains as we found out when we closed them on our first night...with the damp smell the furniture was also damp and felt very unclean. although it was quite warm at night we felt we had to use the heating and open fire to try and get rid of the smell and feel of damp. there is too many reasons to why we would not stay here again!! we booked this as our anniversary holiday week but had to cut it short as we felt we could no longer stay in the property so left after 4 nights if we had the money to book something else we would of done on arrival this ruined our holiday as we ended up paying for a hotel the wednesday night (our anniversary) so we could actually enjoy our special day...also on arrival there was a note that we had to pay for the electric per unit used and as we had to use the heaters in summer this was not something we was happy about...i could go on but i wont just a word of advice for others do not use this cottage as to us it is not worth the money paid..we have stayed in many cottages and this is the worse one and never again

The house was amazing, it was like staying in a museum. I enjoyed reading about how it was restored in the booklets provided. I grew up in a very old farm house and it was like stepping back into my childhood home. Fantastic.

Absolutely fantastic place. We actually felt very emotional when leaving. Such a lovely picturesque place to stay.

Nice cottage, somewhat too near the A30 road, but works out fine as base for daytrips around in the area.

I grew up in a farmhouse with no heating apart from an open fire. This cottage is cute but it would be best to rent in the warmer months. You could smell the dampness when you went in. This was not a problem but having small storage heaters that eat money I feel is not a good idea and having a towel rail in the small bedroom is not sufficient to heat the room up. Whilst I appreciate that a lot of time and effort has been put into the cottage to do up maybe the wording on the property could be changed slightly so people are aware of this. As I say it is cute and I am sure would be lovely had it been warmer.

We stayed here for a week and picked the cottage because we love historic quirky properties. We loved it. Full of character. Road not as noisy as we had feared. Some people have said they did not like aspects of this cottage, but maybe that is because they expect more modern properties with all mod cons. We thought it was great. It was clean and comfortable with an open fire and had been restored really sympathetically. Great that the owners have saved it from being lost. The bathroom had a lovely hot shower too. Would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Not even single glazing so not appropiate to rent over winter season. Electric usage was not included in rental payment, electric heater plus fire was not enough to heat place. Electric blankets provided, you pay the electric used. Not enough logs left to buy from. Property was very dusty, not well kept. Kitchen items were stained, dusty, rusty and not apealing. No complimentary tea, sgar, etc provided. No Christmas decorated even if it was agreed they will be. Landlady was not helpful but annoyed at my contact before entering property.
