Bursting with charm and character, this fabulous conversion of a Grade II listed windmill makes a truly unique and unforgettable base for a fantastic holiday.
With the property dating back to 1780, the owners have built modern wing extensions onto the original tower whilst keeping the true identity of the windmill with fabulous whitewashed stone walls. Union Windmill was featured in Grand Designs magazine in 2013, not long after the conversion was completed.
As you would expect with the quirkiness of the original windmill, the living accommodation is quite unusual and there aren’t doors separating each level. The kitchen/dining room is situated on the ground floor of the original mill and a handcrafted oak staircase winds is way around the curved walls up to the next levels. As you go up, the tower gets narrower. The first floor is a double room, the second floor has a single bed with an additional pull-out bed and right at the top is the most spectacular 360° viewing room with views over the whole island of Anglesey and to the Snowdonia mountain range on the mainland. In one wing of the modern extension is the master bedroom and bathroom. Patio doors lead out onto a lovely lawned garden, which is adjacent to the living room patio doors.
Union Windmill is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the isle of Anglesey and is conveniently located within walking distance of a shop and a village pub. Located in the village of Gaerwen, it’s within easy reach of historic market towns, fine castles and glorious sandy beaches, perfect for year round breaks. Anglesey is a nature lover’s paradise with wonderful walking routes, bird watching opportunities and a myriad of outdoor pursuits in the nearby Snowdonia National Park. Beach 4 miles. Shop 200 yards, pub 500 yards and restaurant 4 miles.
