Waverley Cottage - Beeching Mews, was originally part of West Cliff Railway Station, as you drive towards the row of cottages you are driving towards what used to be the entrance to the station. The old platform area is to the rear of the property. This station used to serve the town of Whitby to Middlesbrough between 1883 until it closed in 1961. Perfectly situated to visit the town of Whitby and with it’s own parking spot which is a bonus! The town has a large sandy beach great for the children with donkey rides, sandcastles and pool fishing to keep them entertained all day. In the centre of the town there are lots of alleyways and cobbled streets with independent shops and the Whitby Jet jewellery shops which Whitby is famous for. With views right along the coast from Robin Hood’s Bay right down to Scarborough the scenery is stunning. This coastline forms part of the Cleveland Way walk, 110 miles that encompasses the North York Moors National Park. Steam trains still travel across the moors from Whitby down to the market town of Pickering passing through Goathland and Grosmont, home to Heartbeat the popular TV programme. Stop off and visit the village and visit one of the tea shops on the village green with the sheep wandering amongst you. The seaside resorts of Sandsend, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay are just a short drive away and going south you have Scarborough, Filey and Flamborough Head. The east coast has won many awards for its clean beaches and these are just a few of them. Beach 600 yards. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

Waverley is in a quiet residential location 5 mins walk away from Whitby's west cliff. It has it's own parking space (a rarity in Whitby). It's in a sort of cul de sac so there's no passing traffic. The cottage is bigger than I expected. The main bedroom has plenty of room & loads of storage. The cottage is warm & cosy & very clean. There was a problem with the boiler when we arrived (a note had been left to say the heating wasn't working). The owner had left the fire on to warm through & the problem was promptly sorted not long after our arrival. This property was really good value for money and we'd definitely stay again. Clean, warm & well located. Plenty of room for 2 adults & 2 children

We visited for 1 week with an infant and found it difficult with all of the nik naks about. We had to move all of them out of the way for fear of breakages. The cot and high chair need replacing and the shower door needs some attention. The cot and high chair were the main reason for choosing this accommodation so was a little disappointed at the quality of these items. Also couldn't get the stair gate to work properly so was constantly stopping our infant from climbing up the stairs. Overall it is a well positioned and pleasant accommodation but with minor changes this would be a great place to stay.

My second time here so it must be OK, however I’ve not yet tried any other holiday cottages to compare. A little bit more attention to detail could make it even better. First impression a little disappointing, back door still needs a coat of paint and a bit of weeding. Light not working in one of the bedrooms. Only one lamp working in bathroom, pleased that one didn’t fail. Quality of towels very poor, brought our own this time. No spare toilet roll, brought our own spare this time. Clock on mantle piece not working. Just one bin liner we brought our own spare. No bin for recycling in the cottage so all our rubbish went in general waste. No terrestrial TV so you get the London local news and weather. All these are minor things and despite them I’d stay here again. Cottage was very clean and beds comfortable. Easy parking. Quiet location.

Very nice cottage with a homely feel. Close enough to walk into town but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful.

This cottage really suits us for location, parking & dog-friendly policy. Although it is comfortable & well-equipped Waverley would benefit from updating of furnishings, bedding etc. All mismatched & outdated.
