    > Standing amidst wonderful countryside close to the North York Moors, this holiday cottage is in a magnificent location for a combined seaside and country holiday. Secluded and tranquil, guests are free to explore the woodland walk and the area is home to a variety of wildlife - including wild deer, owls, hares, etc. The property is set on a small traditional organic farm which grows vegetables and organic soft fruit. Guests are welcome to purchase the organic products grown here directly from the friendly owners. The property is environmentally friendly, heated by a unique wood-burning/solar heating system, and many of the practices throughout the farm and property use natural resources for their day-to-day running. An indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and hard tennis court shared between other properties, a small gym, as well as a children’s play area complete the facilities on offer.

The beautiful North York Moors are a delight to explore either on foot or by car, or alternatively, the steam railway runs along stunning scenery through many unspoilt villages including Goathland (Aidensfield in the television series ’Heartbeat’). The coast is easily accessible, 45 minutes away, and the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are delights not to be missed. The quaint cobbled streets of Robin Hood’s Bay, once a favourite haunt with smugglers, will keep children and adults entertained for hours with its shoreline full of strange and colourful pebbles. Castle Howard is within easy driving distance, and Flamingo Land (a popular theme park and zoo) is well worth the visit. The market town of Helmsley is 6 miles distant and has shops and inns as well as pretty walled gardens. Many National Trust and English Heritage properties can be found within a 15 mile radius, including Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and Duncomb Park, to name but a few. The ancient city of York is but a 45-minute drive (27 miles) and you are within a 5-minute drive to the Yorkshire Moors. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep. The cottage combine country living, yet is close enough to the coast to keep any visitor happy, whatever type of holiday they may be looking for. It is the perfect place in which to relax and unwind - whatever time of year. Shop, pub and restaurant 1.5 miles.

We had lovely holiday. The cottage was clean and warm and very well equipped. The Cottage is set in a farm so there were chickens and goats at the bottom of the garden. The cottage is in a good location to drive to most towns and the coast. We visited Whitby Scarborough Malton Pickering and Helmsley. I used the swimming pool every morning which was warm and I had it all to myself. The owners were friendly and always around if we needed them. We will return again.

We absolutely loved staying at West End. The cottage was so homely and we really felt part of life on a farm! The kids loved the animals and of course the pool. We'd love to return.

West End cottage is a very comfortable cottage set on a farm about 10mins drive from any local amenities in Kirkbymoorside. It is a lovely setting, with goats and chickens outside your back door. There is a swimming pool and a few gym machines just yards from your door. We were expecting a proper farm shop where we could get supplies but actually, all there was were fresh eggs available and a jar of jam on a shelf in the walkway. The shop was just a storage and preparation area, so not open for customers. Bit disappointing. On arrival, the owner had left the door unlocked so we could go in. In the kitchen there was a dirty mug with the remnants of black tea in the sink. When we opened the fridge freezer to put our food away, there was an old, half empty tub of ice cream. Not what you expect on arrival really. Apart from that, the cottage looked fairly clean, with a vase if fresh flowers on the table. There was a bowl with a few tea bags and a small amount of coffee and sugar, plus a packet of biscuits on the side. Sadly no milk though, so if we hadn't come prepared, we wouldn't of had a cuppa. The kitchen was fairly well equipped, although a pair of proper oven gloves would be a handy addition as there was just a tiny silicone glove which wasn't big enough to lift a tray out of the oven. (There wasn't anything to wash up with, so we had to buy a sponge) The kitchen taps leaked, which the owner said they had done for ages. Also, the radiator in the bathroom was leaking if it was turned off (which we needed to do, as it was like a sauna in the cottage on arrival!) It is a very warm cottage and we had to turn off all the radiators and open the windows. We asked for some sheets for the beds, as it was too warm with the duvets on. The towels were a little rough as they don't use a tumble dryer and just air dry them. My mother found them far too rough and had to purchase a towel out shopping. We didn't mind and they were OK. I suppose it's what you are used to. The beds were really comfortable, as was the furniture downstairs. The only addition would be a footstool to put your feet up in the evening. (One thing that most holiday lets seem to forget). I did take one of the dining chairs upstairs so I had a chair in the bedroom. The main bedroom has an ensuite shower and toilet. The showers were really powerful. The main bathroom was downstairs with a bath, toilet and shower over the bath. The only negative, was that my mum had to go downstairs to the toilet if she needed it in the night. (If you had children in the second bedroom they could use the ensuite in the main bedroom I suppose). There is plenty of storage with a mix of hangers in the wardrobes. Overall, apart from the few minor things above, the cottage was very comfortable in a lovely location. The owners were happy to assist where they could and very friendly (but not in your face). We would recommend the cottage and enjoyed our stay.

We had a great week, the cottage was beautiful in good surroundings. We made use of the tennis court, gym, swimming pool and sauna. The accommodation was great, the fire was perfect and we cooked every night having bought great produce from local farm shops. Whitby and other attractions are only a 30 minute drive. The roads are non stressful with great views. I would recommend going on the steam train from Pickering to Whitby (I’m not much of a train fanatic but the views were beautiful and the journey was brilliant and it’s dog friendly). I would totally recommend visiting this part of Yorkshire, I can’t fault the accommodation where I stayed and will be going back next year.

Wonderful cottage with excellent sustainable heating. A joy to come home to such a warm, cosy home at the end of the day. Swimming pool and organic food from the farm such an added bonus! The location is fantastic with everything you need nearby and so much to see and do in the locality. We had a great stay.
