    Comfort and Equipment

It was ideal for what we wanted, especially with our dog. We can't fault it for anything except it said housework could be done an hour a day. This we thought would be optional and were somewhat surprised that the owner came in each day when we were out to empty bins etc.

We did enjoy our stay and found the owners friendly, however, I do feel I need to make the following comments. When we arrived the owner showed us around and stated that she came in everyday to empty bins etc. We were a bit taken back by this comment but did not feel comfortable in saying we did not need to be visited every day and were disappointed we were told and not asked, admittedly they did not call round when they knew we were there. A few times when calling round things were moved (like dog bowl etc) and electrical items owned by us switched off etc. This all made us feel uncomfortable and uneasy, we found that we were checking things before we went out and felt judged which we did not like. The owners cottage is also very close and in fact you can see directly in to the kitchen from the owners cottage which made us feel uncomfortable, we do feel the kitchen window would benefit from a privacy screen covering. Most mornings we woke to find the owner just outside in their own garden attending to plants etc, this did not bother us but did add to the feeling that we felt watched a lot of the time. Towards the end of our stay a note was left telling us that the boiler man would be in the following morning to service the boiler at 9am, we intentionally got up early to leave before that but at 8:30am when we opened the door to leave, the owner was just outside, which gave us a shock, opening the garage where the boiler was. Once again, not a huge problem but I do not think the owners realised what affect all of this has on guests. We do feel the boiler man should have come later when it would have been most likely we were not there and do not feel the owner should have been right outside the door especially before the time she had said. Whilst we were there the DVD player stopped working, we wonder if the owner felt it was our fault as although they said they would replace it they did not in the time we were there. This did not bother us but we felt that maybe they thought we had broken it. What really disappointed me to be honest after all of this, is that upon leaving I texted the owner to thank them for everything and explain we had put key through door, we also left them a gift (nothing special admittedly) on the kitchen table. We had no response to the text message and no thanks for the gift. I get the feeling that none of the issues we had and the feelings we felt were intended by the owner, however, although I normally always leave positive reviews I feel justified in leaving this review. A couple of minor things I would mention are that the mattress on the bed in the room of the lounge is very hard and uncomfortable and the plug for the lights on the side tables in the main bedroom needs looking at is it crackled as I plugged it back in on the day we left so think the cables might be loose or something. My overall comment would be that the owners should do more to give guests more privacy, we realise it is their property which they want to look after but they should not make guests feel uneasy which in our case they certainly did. Also, to be honest, I would have forgotten everything as we did enjoy our holiday and our stay in White Cross but ignoring my text message and not at least thanking us for the gift in my opinion is just RUDE! :(

Very peaceful and well-situated for local attractions

The cottage was very comfortable and very clean as the owner came in daily to clean the property. The location was good and not too far from amenities. There was plenty of places to visit and there was also walks from the door. Overall the visit was good value for money and worth visiting again.

We really enjoyed our long weekend stay at White Cross. The property was easy to find, located down a tarmac private road off of a quiet road. It is surrounded by fields and a couple of houses locally. The property is all on one level with one step and lip of door round the 'back' and a small ramp and lip of door via the conservatory (although we never quite worked out the conservatory door handle and it probably needs changing for a new lock/handle). Apart from the door lips the property is all on one level. The equipment in the bungalow is a bit dated but it all works perfectly. You've got good pressure from the shower. The electric cooker is from the past but works fine, there is a fridge and a freezer. After the first day I got used to everything. You have a washing machine but no tumble dryer (although a large clothes airer is provided which we popped into the sun/heat catching conservatory) and the choice to eat your meals in the kitchen/diner, conservatory or outside. The owner lives very close-by and it gave us an orientation around the cottage and tips about the local area. She made us feel very welcome and even popped in the next day to check if everything was okay as she promised. It was lovely to see a couple of the dogs she was looking after during our stay. I wasn't familiar with the local area but pretty much getting in the car and aiming in any direction let us see a lot of the lovely local scenery and we went out for a drive in a new direction every day during our stay. Overall the holiday was very good. The accommodation is very good value for money so I can't mark anything down for being dated (if you want something whizz-bang modern then you're going to be paying a premium) but if you're looking for somewhere nice, quiet and functional then White Cross is probably what you're going for. There is no wired internet access at the property but we found that 3G/4G data on Three & Orange were perfectly good and we plugged a network streaming box into the HDMI port on the telly and used mobile data to watch Netflix, etc. which we've done at other holiday cottages.

Upon arrival we were met by Tracy the owner, she showed us around the cottage and explained what was in the local villages. We found the cottage very comfortable, spacious and warm. Other reviews mention it being dated, whilst we agree slightly everything was very comfy and serviceable. The garden is huge and fully enclosed so ideal for dog owners. All of the rooms are very spacious and everything was spotlessly clean. Its in a good position for visiting lots of beautiful villages and attractions. Being disabled I found the cottage easy to walk in and access things.Tracy is a lovely lady who is always on hand if needed but never intrusive. All in all a lovely cottage in a lovely area, I would have no problem at all in recommending White cross to anyone. Hopefully we will return.

We had a wonderful relaxing holiday, very peaceful location, great for recharging your batteries. Brilliant for bringing your dog, safe garden and good walks. The care and attention from Tina was exceptional and really appreciated. We will definitely be returning in the future.
