> National Trust Holiday Property
Situated at the heart of the Sutton Hoo estate, Wilford is an apartment on the second floor of Tranmer House - the home of Edith Pretty, instigator of the 1939 excavation at Sutton Hoo. (There is an education centre on the ground floor and guests staying at Wilford enjoy free entry to Sutton Hoo.)
The excavation revealed the remains of an enormous burial which was to be identified as a Saxon ship dating back to the 7th century. Many valuable artefacts were also discovered, which were later donated by Edith Pretty to the British Museum.
This National Trust location is a unique apartment overlooking the River Deben, and guests can enjoy the many marked trails surrounding this historical site, or further afield in the beautiful countryside of Suffolk. With sandy beaches, seaside fun, rural landscape and waterways, all within easy reach of Wilford, this is an ideal location for a holiday. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub 2 miles.
