The cottage looked great in the photos but on closer inspection it presents tired and in need of TLC, especially the outside. The outside lights don’t work so the owners have left torches for guests, just fix the lights, paint the outside woodwork and give some attention to the plants in the pots. Inside the cottage has been completed to a high standard, there is an excellent kitchen with a vaulted ceiling but the log burner in the lounge and the under floor heating in the bathroom area are the only proper heating source. The cavernous kitchen does not have heating apart from an extremely noisy kick board heater that needs to on constantly to make a difference.......the kitchen is freezing. Although the place was, on the surface clean, the kitchen especially was covered in cobwebs. It is the first cottage/villa I have stayed in were there has not been a basic welcome pack, a bottle of mulled wine and somebody else’s half used coffee and butter in the fridge does not make guests feel welcome. The cottage details had said decorated for Christmas, and I had thought due to us going from the 19th -23rd December, the cottage would look festive, it did not. The village was lovely and the locals in the two pubs very welcoming, the cottage is well positioned for a stroll into the village for a drink and the food at The Beaufort is excellent. The cottage was lovely but it is definitely style over substance and needs some attention paid to it, to bring it back to-the former standard shown on its rental pictures.

Owners were lovely, lodge was beautifully appointed. Very quiet which is what we wanted, very good local pub and would definitely consider a return visit.

We had an excellent week exploring Monmouthshire. The lodge was comfortable and had most of the things you need for a relaxed holiday. The pool is lovely, but we were disappointed to find that we only had use of it between 10am and 5pm which wasn't mentioned in the details. You have to choose between going out exploring and using the pool, which meant we didn't get the use of it we'd planned. We understand that it is the owners, but had we known about the time restrictions we would probably not have chosen to visit. However, overall it was a great week.
