One of three eco glamping pods here at ’Wilding on a Whim’, Woodpecker, like the others is named after a species of bird. Not far south from Edinburgh, just outside Penicuik where the Lothians meet the Scottish Borders is Whim Estate. A rewilding project undertaken by the owners to bring one of the world’s most important factors back, the power of nature. Woodpecker is the perfect escape for a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and a chance to immerse yourself with nature all around, with some of the most stunning and dramatic scenery just moments away.
The pods are all fitted with an ’ottoman’ type doube bed, with ample storage for bags and cases beneath, sitting area with wall mounted TV/DVD player, kitchen with appliances and everything needed to prepare meals and a space to enjoy them. A separate shower room is also provided in each pod. Given the fabulous location of the lodges here at Wilding on a Whim, you may wish to extend your trip and use these as a base. With Edinburgh some 20-30 minutes by car to the north, the exciting mountain bike trails of Glentress Forest or even a day trip to Loch Lomond, all can be accessed within 90 minutes.
