Two of us took a four night break to recoup after a family bereavement. We knew the weather was going to be poor (and it was in the immediate aftermath of Storms Ciara and Denis) but we got the days of peace and quiet that we had been seeking. We know the area as friends live nearby, and we are only just over an hour away ourselves. We guess the house had been empty for a few days, at least, prior to our arrival but by our first full day it was very warm and cosy. While we are used to a log burner we had little luck with burning the wood we purchased, not sure if this was a problem with the wood or the stove. The extra heat wasn't needed but the effect would have been nice. Note that parking for one car does mean exactly that. There is a bay outside JUST big enough for our Audi A4 Estate and it wasn't clear where a further car might have gone.

Woodside Cottage was a great place to stay in the northern lakes. It was very well set up and the owners had even left us some Christmas treats! Once we had the heating and fire going the house was nice and warm, and we went for a very nice walk in the area. The only thing I would change would be a new bed in the main bedroom, as it was one of those ones where every movement is felt by everyone!

Love this little cottage and its location. We've been here many times in the past and have already booked up for next year! :-)

Whilst we enjoyed our holiday we think that with a few improvements to the cottage, it could be great and well worth the 4 stars it portrays to be. Firstly we noticed the floors were still wet from where the floors had been cleaned but nothing else seemed to have been. From the amount of cobwebs and spiders around the house, we presume it hadn't been dusted for sometime and had to clear these ourselves. We noticed light bulbs weren't working - perhaps these should be checked at change over. The double bed is very small and the pillows very uncomfortable. We ended up sleeping in the twin which wouldn't have been our first choice for sleeping arrangements. A guide to some local walks wouldnt go a miss as although braithwaite is only a 20 minute walk away, it is through a forest which has some tricky paths and not really suitable to walking in darkness. (Say after dinner from the pub) That said the kitchen and living room are very nice and well equipped.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Woodside cottage in a beautiful setting, very comfortable, clean and excellent facilities. Lovely walks in the area without using the car. We hope to return in the future.
