The lodge was beautifully done up, and very spacious, with large bathrooms, storage and lovely modern furniture. It was extremely clean and tidy.
We wanted to be able to keep it to this standard over our stay, so were surprised that there were no cloths or cleaning materials provided, and no tea towel or binbags. You would think that after putting so much time and money into providing high-end accommodation, they would want to encourage guests to look after it.
We had to ring for the extra items on the Saturday morning, and then about 3 or 4 hours later on Saturday afternoon, as despite being told the first time that someone would bring these items down for us straightaway, they hadn't arrived. When they did come, they only brought 1 more binbag, but about 5 cloths. This did not make sense to us: as a group of four eating a meal the night before, enjoying drinks in the hot tub, and then having brunch the next day, we had already filled the small bin that morning, and would do the same the next night/day too.
There were no bins in the bathrooms, which was a bit of a pain. No ashtray outside although it says in the lodge reading material that they are provided. We didn't want to make a mess, so had to make a makeshift one.
When the lady rang me the day before to confirm arrival, I asked what was already in the property i.e.: towels, tea, coffee, etc. and she advised me to bring some extra towels if using the hot tub which was fine. She also said bathrobes were provided for us, but there were only two - this was something we also requested the next day; the first time we rang, they said they'd send them down, but when the lady came down that afternoon she said the camp had no more and they were only allocating two robes per lodge. This was annoying as it was not what was said on the phone that morning, or the day before - had we known, we would've brought our own!
She also said there was tea, coffee, milk and sugar there for us as a starter pack. When we got there, there was no milk, and only 4 teabags. For a group of 4 for a whole weekend, that's not sufficient really. We had to drive to the next town to get milk and more teabags, after driving all the way down from Scotland and expecting to be able to just relax on arrival. Again, if we'd known (or if she had been specific/not told me the wrong thing), we would have brought them with us with the rest of our food and drink.
There were only 4 of each item of cutlery and crockery, which was annoying because if we wanted to have something later, we either needed to do the washing up (without any washing up liquid - another necessity not provided), and try and dry it all on a bath towel (until the tea towel was finally delivered!) which we didn't want to do really because of the towels being so nice - OR put on a half-load in the dishwasher which is a waste of water and electricity (and - surprise, surprise - we were only supplied one dishwasher tablet so had to get more from Reception).
No salt or pepper but empty salt and pepper shakers - annoying when cooking!
The double room was very comfortable as it had windows that opened to let the air in, and good blackout curtains.
Unfortunately, the twin room was stifling in the heat-wave and unbearable to sleep in as none of its windows opened. The twin bed base joined together to form a double, which was great in theory, but the mattresses did not, so they kept hanging over the edge of the bed if you moved. This was not just annoying and uncomfortable, but also knocked the bedside lamps a few times, which we were then worrying about breaking. The room had a long head height window above the bed, with curtains barely coming to the bottom, so in the morning the sun shone in right into your eyes - what little sleep you'd managed to get despite the heat was then broken at daybreak: not that relaxing. Even though the actual weekend and surroundings were lovely, I went home more tired than I'd arrived!
We did think the lodge was beautiful and it looks very luxurious, the hot tub was fab, several aspects were lovely, and we had a nice time, but the attention to detail in terms of what guests really need in order to make their stay stress-free and comfortable was lacking considerably. I think staff need more awareness re: communication so as to not mislead guests. Value for money - it would have been had we not experienced all of these teething problems and had there been better comfort in the twin bedroom.
