I booked this as a special surprise gift for my parent wedding anniversary, from me and my 3 children to have a nice short stay break.
We arrived to the caravan to find rather dirty toilet floor. My mother wanted to clean it and i told her not to as we could get the house keeping staff to come and do it. I was going to go for a shower anyway and asked my mum just to unpack while i had a quick shower, I ran the water and found that the shower basin was filling with water and not draining.
My mum went to make us all a cup of tea only to find two mugs with something mouldy inside both of them.
My children and I had planned a special family meal for my parents wedding anniversary. We prepared everything ready for it to be cooked and when we went to light the cooker the ignition switch was broken and was not working. We had no means to light the cooker as none of us smoke and there was no lighter of any sort in the caravan.
My father went to the double bedroom and the light bulb had blown.
By this time, i had enough and we telephoned reception to complain about the faults and the toilet being filthy. We were told that they would get someone up to fix the problems.
By this time we should have been eating our meal then going out to enjoy our holiday, time was getting on and we had no time to cook our meal for the evening. Our plans for my parents special wedding anniversary meal ruined.
When the house keeper finally came to the caravan, my father asked her why the caravan was so dirty she then took offence and started to speak to my father like a child asking him, "is he not used to things going wrong in his house as these things happen" ?
My mother couldn't believe how my father was spoken too. She was upset and wanted just to stay in for the evening.
I had to get my children their dinner as it was 7.50pm by now. Myself, my father and my three children went to the restaraunt to get our evening meal which cost us £59.60. This is something we would not have endured if the caravan was to standard.
We returned back to the caravan around 10.20pm to find my mother sleeping in the lounge area, she woke when we came in. when i asked her why she was not in bed ? She then told us that,
the bed linen was stained and she was not sleeping on it.
She then went on to tell me about the mouldy and dirty windows and surrounds,
the main fitted fireplace unit was loose and unattached to the ceiling,
Mirror in the double bedroom was filthy and mouldy and the surrounds worn.
I put the children to bed and they slept in their sleeping blankets that we have in our car. Myself and parents slept in the lounge area with the fire on.
In the morning my two youngest childen came through to the lounge area and my daughter told me that my son had cut his leg getting out of the bed.
I asked her to show me what he did as i was curious to see how he got out of the bed.
When she came off the bed at the same way, she yelled in paid and she too had cut her leg !
On closer inspection of the beds, i was horrified to find a screw sticking out of one of the single beds and a rusty looking nail sticking out of the other.
I was extremely angry at this point and wanted to go to reception to complain. My mother being calm, asked me to take the children swimming and she would go to main reception to deal with things.
I took the children to the swimming and we were only in the pool for a matter of a few seconds when everyone was asked to leave the pool as they would have to close.
We asked what had happened and were told that a someone has been sick in the pool.
On returning to the caravan, my mother told me she had shown the receptionist at main reception photographs of the state the caravan was in.
The receptionist said we would have to be moved to another caravan. We had to repack our bags and empty the fridge etc ready to move to another caravan, then we had to sit and wait for a telephone call for us to be relocated. More time used up and wasted when we should have been enjoying our weekend break !
When i asked my mother to go back to reception to tell them what had happened at the swimming and me not being happy about our ordeal, she gave my mother some breakfast vouchers. This is not what i had planned or paid for ? I just wanted to go home there and then as everything my children and i had planned for my parents wedding anniversary had been ruined. All the upheaval of unpacking, packing, moving and unpacking again and all the problems with the caravan and attitude of house keeping staff ? This is not what i expect when i pay for a short break. Our plans for a happy family break to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary as a special gift from myself and their grandchildren ruined. This is something you can never recover as we planned to make this memorable for my parents and my children, something to look back on and enjoy, not now !
My parents have been to Wemyss Bay twice before and really enjoyed their time there. I honestly think they will never be back !
