Me and my partner stayed here for 4 nights in December for a pre Christmas getaway.
When I booked I didn't realise that the check in time is 4pm. I feel this is far too late to be able to check in when you have paid for that day/night. We tried checking in at 3pm but were refused, we tried again just before 4pm and were told we could check in (the receptionist did make us feel as if she was doing us a huge favour?), however we weren't allowed to use the hot tub until 4pm.
The receptionist also told us to expect fresh towels, robes and linen in our accommodation. However when we arrived we had no robes. I range reception to ask for some robes, a short while later a lady came to give us our robes, but questioned why we hadn't been given robes, and made us feel like we had almost stolen the robes??
The park itself is lovely, great facilities, a restaurant and reception, bar etc. Unfortunately our lodge (no 9) wasn't in a nice area of the park with views over the water, or the surrounding fields, but it was facing many other cabins and the reception area. We felt a bit squished in between other cabins and if we wanted our curtains drawn everyone around us could see in. Not a huge deal, as we kept them mostly closed, but it was not as private or peaceful as we were hoping for. I think the images advertised are a bit misleading as most of the cabins are much, much closer together than shown, and not many are looking over the water as shown. It looks far less idyllic when you arrive.
The cabin itself was wonderful overall, spacious, luxurious and spotlessly clean. We booked premier accommodation with a hot tub, which was wonderful. The hot tub was in quote poor condition though, with some bits falling off the head rests which was annoying at times.
We even had some board games in our cabin which were great fun and a lovely addition, it is the small things like this that make a difference to your stay. The log burner was lovely too, it really adds charm to the place.
Unfortunately however, on our last day the heating and electric went inside the cabin. We eventually got through to the off-duty park supervisor who was very helpful and friendly and quickly resolved the issue. However, it happened again and again. We called him out to fix the issue twice but gave up after that point, we left the following day anyway. The park did offer us a small means of compensation for this when we left (after I brought it to their attention), which was nice.
We found ourselves frequenting the very convenient Copper Fells restaurant twice during our 4 night stay. Our first meal was superb, and far exceeded our expectations. However on our second visit we were served frozen vegetables, and baby potatoes on a roast dinner. Not a cheap one at that, so it wasn't so great in the end sadly.
