Lisa Dunoon and Reading | Family (with only pre-school children) The only reason I’ve rated it low is because the lodge needed to be updated. We have been staying theree for at least 10 years and could never fault it so it’s a shame and very disappointing. A door handle was loose, the sink made a banging noise when the water was turned on in the kitchen, the shower was not powerful and drained away slowly. Another thing that I don’t know can be fixed is that the upstairs floors were very loud and squeaky keeping both rooms awake. Otherwise, the staff and handy men were very efficient and it was a shame that we could not use the facilities due to the current COVID situation.

The Isle of Wight is closer than you think

Located off the southern coast of England, this stunning island can be accessed via several different ways from mainland England whether you are travelling by car, bike, or on foot. Whichever way you travel, you’ll arrive on the island in an hour or less.

Wightlink operate ferries between Lymington and Yarmouth, which is located on the west side of the island and takes just 40-minutes. The ferry runs frequently and can accommodate cars, bikes, foot passengers and motor homes. From Yarmouth port, it is just a 40-minute onward drive to Woodside Bay and Woodside Coastal. Wightlink ferries also run from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, located in the north of the island, with the journey taking just 45-minutes, and accommodating vehicles and foot passengers. From Fishbourne, it is just a 13-minute onward drive to Woodside Bay and Woodside Coastal.

Not taking a vehicle? Wightlink operate a high-speed Catamaran for foot passengers only, which runs from Portsmouth to Ryde and takes just 20-minutes to reach the island. Once you’ve reached the Isle of Wight, hop on the bus or grab a taxi to make your way to Woodside Bay and Woodside Coastal.

Red Funnel operate the ferry service running between Southampton and East Cowes, on the east side of the island. The ferry takes cars, bikes, foot passengers and motor homes, and the journey takes around 60 minutes, with services running 24 hours each day. From East Cowes, it is a 20-minute onward journey to Woodside Bay and Woodside Coastal. Red Funnel also operate a foot passenger service which runs from Southampton to West Cowes and takes around 25 minutes.

For a more unique journey, you can also travel by hovercraft with Hovertravel services. This is a foot passenger service and takes just 10 minutes, running between Portsmouth and Ryde.
