Only given an overall rating of 5 because of the location. Its in an idilic location, for a short relaxation break. Beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Pod perfectly functional for 2, possibly on the small side for families. Lots of ducks, swans, geese (with young) , peasants and other birds that can be fed. Children's play area and two lakes if you enjoy fishing. Other than that not alot else to do on site but we were there to relax and travelled to York (further than I thought, about 12 miles) Melbourne and Pocklington for days out and meals, you need a car to stay here id say. Sunday lunch at the Melbourne Arms whilst a little pricey at £9.95, it was lovely, would definitely recommend. I'd have given the pod 10/10 if it wasn't for the cleanliness and the unprofessional attitude/rudeness of the owners, which really let it down. Trip advisor has some interesting reviews re this. Cleanliness wasn't great, lots of dirt (bits/crumbs) under the units in the kitchen, cobwebs coming from the light fitting to wall, toilet not clean on arrival nor was the toilet brush which was full of wet tissue. Kitchen clean enough but 2 ring hob full of grease and cutlery
tray filthy. These things may not have been cleaned from previous users but in my opinion staff should be bottoming the places for next arrivals. Don't expect to have to wash everything before use. Egg cups left on a shelf by the door along with the glasses which obviously hadn't been used or cleaned for a while. When we went to use them were full of dust and a dead green fly in one. Again I'd expect these to be cleaned after every visit. Curtains and sofa had stains which didn't give the best impression and whilst the bedding on the bed was clean the extra bedding provided had dubious brown marks on so we didn't utilise. I've marked value for money down because I think our visit worked out at about £ 45 a night and for that I'd expect basic cleanliness. Staff only on site three days according to there leaflet, meaning after the departure of some guests on the Sunday the bins were left overflowing. The pod next door to us, appeared to have a resident rat (seen running from the lake to under the pod) , perhaps to be expected in the countryside, around open water and where animals are being fed but also perhaps not helped by overflowing bins. Parking for pods adequate, the toilet by the car park, presumably utilised by the fishermen didn't appear to be cleaned our whole stay, no toilet paper and filthy. Again down to users but should be cleaned daily if not more. Staff pleasant on arrival and gave a complementary small box of chocolates which I thought was a nice gesture. However unhelpful, and in my opinion unprofessional, when required to provide the service we had paid for. We had boiled eggs for breakfast one day hence discovering the dirty egg cups because we had planned to have a bacon sandwich on the Sunday. Only to find, despite there being an inventory stating there should be three pans and a frying pan, that there was no frying pan. We therefore text Karen and requested that one be brought, we weren't in a rush as we'd have it the following day. Her response was, " sorry, I'm not on site today" when told that was OK because we'd utilise it the next day we were asked " is there not a poaching pan that can double up as a frying pan, a suggestion" not very helpful at all and no willingness to rectify their error, why have an inventory if it isn't a true reflection of what is in the pod? We used the poaching pan, and as I thought it simply "poached" a little before burning because it isn't what it's supposed to be utilised for. It was a total waste of food and time because it was awful and was thrown in the bin. No apology and didnt attempt to rectify, weren't bothered/interested. Also worth mentioning they provide 1 toilet roll, but for three days/a week, this may not be enough, if we'd have asked we MAY have been provided with more but we didn't like after our experience with them over the pan so bought our own, but they should either provide them or tell you that you are to bring them. Based on cleanliness and staff interaction, I wouldn't return. However my mother said she would but with cleaning products haha because of its location. We wouldn't have visited had I read trip advisor reviews before hand. It has the potential to be a great experience sadly in the hands of alternative owners I'd say. Trip advisor has responses to reviews from the vendor, where the managers have desputed/given excuses for the negative comments but if several people are experiencing the same issues obviously as a business this is something you need to address. Cleanliness and staff have been mentioned in many reviews and seemingly it hasn't improved.
