We were staying in the lodge to celebrate our daughter's 18th birthday. We had arranged for both sets of grandparents, one Aunt and one child to visit for a small celebration on the Sunday afternoon between 1pm and 6pm.
When we went to speak to the owner and ask about parking we were met with a very rude response and told that our visitors would not be welcome and if we had wanted a party we should have booked elsewhere! Our parents at the point had just arrived and we were told that we had left the owner not choice but to agree, but that we had ruined their family's Sunday lunch. My husband was made to feel like he was a child being reprimanded by a headmaster, not at all like a paying customer!
Whilst I appreciate I should have more thoroughly checked the terms and conditions in relation to visitors on booking I do not think it necessary for customers to be spoken to and dealt with in such a rude and arrogant fashion. We were most certainly not having a huge party in Lodge, the average age of those visiting being 60 and they had all left by 6pm.
I felt the way my husband was treated was completely unacceptable and despite that fact this in all other respects we were more than happy with our stay at Wighill, for this reason alone we would not stay again and in fact have made sure that all of our friends and family are aware of the poor customer relations. I will certainly not be recommending Wighill to anyone in future.
Very pleasant, rural surroundings but within easy reach of Leeds, Harrogate and York, and further afield to the coast.
Good location as attending wedding in park. Reception and flexibility of management staff dreadful; no understanding of booking party arriving at different times, intransigence at lead name signing in first and rather protracted health and safety brief!
Stayed there with my partner and toddler, the owner was lovely and polite, the location stunning and close to tourist attractions, absolutely amazing weekend will be booking again! ☺️
would defo recommend staying at Wighill Manor Lodges. Lodge was spotless and could not complain about anything. Melaine and Rupert were lovely friendly people.
will be booking again very soon. 10/10
Had a fantastic stay and the high standard of the lodge and features were far better than expected. Only negative point was no wifi and poor phone signal which is a concern for me when my dad is in poor health but I'll be returning.
Beautiful spotless lodge and very helpful owners who very thoughtfully
left tea, coffee and milk for us on our arrival. Peaceful surroundings with gorgeous views. My husband and I went for our honeymoon, I'm hoping to go back for our first anniversary.
if you want peace and quiet just to chill out then this is the place for you .twenty minutes down the road is York with all its attractions so best of both worlds .spotlessly clean with all modern comforts a real find will be visiting again !
Absolutely loved it and would highly recommend to others, will definitely be booking to go again next year if not before!!!!!!!
quiet peaceful would recommend, slippers and dressing gown.. for hot tub would stay again.
A lovely lodge in a very tranquil location. The facilities were first class, clean and well maintained and the owners very helpful. We travelled with two young children and they loved the hot tub, but we were reluctant to let them play on the open grassy area to the rear of the lodge as it was bordered by an electric fence only a few metres away! Wighill itself was very quiet with no shop (Tadcaster almost three miles away being the closest place to buy anything) although the White Swan pub in the village was wonderful and welcoming. York was only a 15 minute car journey away so very handy and Harrogate and Leeds less than 30 minutes travel. All in all nice spot for a secluded break but a little lacking in local amenities.
Fabulous lodge in a perfect setting. Hot tub was lovely and hot. We'll definitely return for another visit. Couldn't fault a thing.
it is not that we did'nt enjoy wighill manor lodges but we like to go to different places each time
The lodge is very close to York, with a park and ride (Askham Bar) only about 5 minutes away from the lodge. The bus only took about 15 minutes, they were every 10 minutes, and it was only £2.70 each. York Designer Outlet is also pretty close about 25 minutes away by car. Whitby was about an hour and 15 minutes away, so fairly close to a lovely seaside town too. It is an ideal location if you want to be close to a big city, but not in it.
The owners were lovely and friendly, and once they had shown us how things work in the lodge and given information about the surrounding area, we didn’t see them until we checked out a week later (although if we had a problem I’m sure they would have been quick to help).
A fantastic place to relax.
