The geological marvel of Mam Tor, known as “The Shivering Mountain” due its continuous landslips, is one of the most popular walks in the Peak District National Park. The main path, although steep in some parts, is generally considered a moderate to easy route Once you reach the summit, you’ll be greeted by stunning views of the Hope Valley and Edale, and the remains of an Iron Age hill fort. When you get back down, head to the nearby village of Castleton for a cup of tea in one of the cosy cafés or something stronger in one of the welcoming pubs. Bringing your pooch along on this walk? Find the pawfect base with our dog-friendly accommodation in the Peak District.
Kinder Scout stands proudly as the highest point in the Peak District, with various walks and a challenging terrain that attracts keen hikers. One of the most unique features on this prominent plateau is Kinder Downfall, a seasonal waterfall that cascades over the edge but is often blown back in strong winds, creating a phenomenon known as the "upside-down waterfall”. The most popular starting point for hiking up Kinder Scout is Edale, with a round trip taking around 3 or 4 hours, depending on your fitness levels and how many times you stop to admire the view. At the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding villages, heather-covered moorlands and rolling hills. After a strenuous walk like this, you’ll certainly have earned a hearty meal in one of Edale’s traditional pubs.
For a gentler walk in the Peak District, consider Dovedale, with its accessible paths, breathtaking scenery and unique limestone valley. The popular Dovedale Walk takes you via the iconic stepping stones that cross the River Dove, through verdant meadows and woodland areas, and past iconic rock formations like Thorpe Cloud and Tissington Spire. Given its relatively easy terrain, it’s a popular walk for families, allowing you to soak up the scenery and enjoy the vast natural beauty of this stunning National Park. Whichever walk you choose, why not treat yourself to a relaxing soak afterwards by booking one of our Peak District hot tub lodges.
