The cottage itself was fine, though the lack of wi hi and useable mobile phone/satellite coverage was a huge drawback. Also the location was a bit remote for my tastes but that is a my tastes.

Had enjoyable holiday but could do with a few extra touches. Needs wifi a new tv and DVD player and new garden furniture or cushions to put on existing furniture

The cottage was very tidy and comfortable and we enjoyed a pleasant stay. We had limited interaction with our hosts who were pleasant, helpful, and informative. We felt that the details were slightly misleading in that it wasn't clear to use that there was a shared courtyard with another holiday let directly opposite. Fortunately this let wasn't occupied whilst we were there, but we selected this property for privacy and would have been dissapointed had it been occupied. This would prevent us from renting this cottage again.

Grooms Cottage is pleasant enough but we did have a few criticisms. The owner was away on holiday until the day before our arrival. I had been trying, as instructed, to contact her about access on the day. I'd left a couple of messages and when I did finally get hold of her she was quite curt. She didn't walk across the yard to greet us. Her husband was deputed to do that. When we asked where he would recommend for a meal that evening he said they never ate locally and couldn't advise. On arrival the house was very cold. The central heating instructions were complicated and difficult to read in the poor light in the house. We thought we had got it working but when we returned (from an actual pub!) at 9.30 the house was still cold. We phoned the owner for advice; she tried to explain it over the phone (she was only across the yard for God's sake) but eventually came across in her pyjamas & clearly annoyed. Next morning we showered and we all flooded the bathroom floor as the door was not watertight. The owner's husband said he would do a temporary repair with mastic but it didn't make much difference. Sheets on the single beds were clean but offensively marked and should have been replaced. The filter on the tumble dryer in the laundry was horribly clogged up; unpleasant and a fire hazard. An insurance document in the folder in the cottage was out of date. The hairdryer was due for a safety check in 2012! The carbon monoxide detector had only 4 weekly checks listed since 2015. There was no indication that the LPG safety record had been carried out 'on or before March 20th 2017'. There's no wifi and no Vodaphone service. The TV was a pain. The vacuum cleaner was filthy and unpleasant to touch. We were asked to put rubbish out in time for a Tuesday collection. We took it across on the Monday and it wasn't collected when we got back on Tuesday. The information folder was poor and contained no 2017 info. The cottage isn't actually bad but the owner doesn't seem to be prepared to make the effort to keep it up to scratch. It wouldn't take much to do what needs to be done. And perhaps she could try being a bit more hands-on and people friendly.
