• About Lee Cottage

Cut off from the mainland twice a day by the incoming tide, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne allows visitors to experience complete tranquillity and timelessness, and these Grade II listed fishermen’s cottages are ideally placed to enjoy this unique location. There is a book library in both properties with information about the history of the local area, and there are also a selection of unique postcards that each tell a story and show how the island has changed throughout the years. The cottages offer contemporary comfort yet retain their original charm and character, and are within walking distance of the harbour and long sandy beaches. Both properties are designed for couples, but they also offer an additional stowaway Z bed for one additional friend or child. The island, a fine walking and bird watching destination, is dominated by 16th century Lindisfarne Castle, standing dramatically on a rocky outcrop – the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, the 7th century seat of Christian learning, are close by. Across the causeway, Northumberland’s many delights; Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses for boat trips to the Farne Islands’ bird and seal colonies, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens, all of which are within easy driving distance. Though each property is completely self contained, a lockable interconnecting door allows both cottages to be booked by a single family or group (maximum sleeps 4+2). Local carry-out meals available. Shop 200 yards, pubs serving food 500 yards.
Ground floor: Living/dining room/kitchen. Shower room with toilet. First floor: 1 double bedroom. Z bed available.

Both properties: Elec, elec heaters and bed linen inc. Freeview TV/DVD. CD. Book library. Elec cooker. M/wave. D/washer. Freezer. Wi-fi. Shared garden with decking and furniture. Shared BBQ. Parking. No smoking.

The island is beautiful, oozing an atmosphere of relaxing tranquility when the day visitors have left. The elements and landscape provide the opportunity of invigorating exercise and the welcome from locals extremely warm. Our stay lived up to high expectations. The cottage is comfortable and cosy and in a perfect location at the centre of the village. Amenities are few but that adds to the charm. Our only criticism would be the cleanliness of the cottage. I would expect the standard to have been higher.

QIf somebody is under 5ft tall, then I would recommend it to them. Just recovering from the thumping head from keep banging my head on the sloping roof.

The visitors book spoke volumes when it spoke about dirty, broken crockery dating back years, and the items in question still had not been replaced. This is a very quaint cottage that is let down by a lack of cleanliness and poor upkeep. For example we didnt expect to have to clean out the shower tray and remove hair from god knows how many previous guests !

Lovely well equiped cosy cottage. Warm, fantastic shower. Pretty little garden attracting wildlife, lovely to relax and chill in. Quaint and quintessentially English. We thoroughly enjoyed out time there and our time on the island. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Holy Island is a beautiful place to have a relaxing holiday. Unfortunately we found Lee Cottage a little tired and dirty, for example the fridge and the bread bin needed cleaning and windowsill had not been dusted in a while. The whole place felt like it needed a good spring clean. On the plus side the owner was very helpful when I had a problem and the cottage was warm.

Lovely little cottage with peaceful, sunny back garden. We had a delightful retreat here - really rejuvenating. Only thing that could do with an upgrade is the bed and linen, but the rest was tip-top.

Lovely little cottage. It does not supply towels, which is an archaic practice so would benefit from this. Apart from that it is comfortable and excellent value for money.

Warm and cosy. Would benefit from larger TV. Odd things need a little updating - carpets, mugs (4/6 chipped). Few cobwebs and the fridge needed cleaning out. Overall was quite adequate and we enjoyed our stay in the cottage and on Holy Island. Agree with other reviews with regard to wireless single, need to stand in back hall or sit on the loo to maintain signal!!

Lee cottage was in a fantastic location. However the place itself was not clean and shelves were with thick with dust and most of the cooking utensils were dirty. Five out of the six mugs in the cupboard all had a really bad chips out of them and we had to spend time cleaning the place as it was very grubby. The fridge was filthy inside with spilt food products and milk going stale we were left with a without a single bed sheet for our daughters put up bed and the fitted bottom sheet on our double bed was in very very poor condition and ill fitting. We just found the whole cottage was very tired and tatty and there was still food underneath the sofas that obviously hadn't been moved or cleaned for months and cobwebs and dust in so many places it felt very tacky and unclean and we would certainly never return to this cottage again . An example would be the bathroom mats, they were very soiled and it was obvious that they had not been washed from the previous occupants of the cottage When walking round the house we always made sure we kept socks on or shoes on as we did not want our bare feet on any of the carpets or floors.

Loved the cottage it was sufficient for our needs,I hadn't noticed there was no toilet upstairs, which was a little draw back, as I'm not very mobile. Surprised that towels were not provided which were made aware of after we had left home, fortunately a friend loans us some for the week. My really gripe was not with the cottage but the rental company who I found to be less than helpful. Had a lovely time overall and would use the cottage again.
