  • About Lochside Garden House

This impressive self-contained wing of a beautiful Victorian country house is ideal for family gatherings and celebrations, and is the perfect base for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Set on a working farm with stunning views over Yetholm Loch and towards the Cheviot Hills, the property features an entrance hallway with a grand piano, and is spacious, very comfortable and furnished with period and antique furniture. Numerous recreational facilities are provided for visitors – without even having to leave the grounds, catering for a whole range of interests and a variety of tastes. In the drawing room a selection of games, toys and books make an enjoyable evening spent together as a family and the south facing secluded garden with private hot tub makes for ultimate relaxation. Both house and garden overlook parkland with grazing ponies, rare breed white park cattle and soay sheep. This is a quirky house, appealing to those with a sense of adventure, looking to enjoy the laid back appeal of a bygone age and the wonderful sense of space, inside and out. Trout, pike, perch and roach fishing available by arrangement at cost. The natural woodland gardens encompass a toddler zone next to the house, a maze of terraces and paths, badminton and a treehouse with a slide (for children over 10 years, only available in dry weather). The village of Yetholm is made up of two distinct parts – Kirk Yetholm and Town Yetholm, which lie just ¼ mile apart. Situated on the edge of the Cheviot Hills, they mark the end of the Pennine Way footpath, as well as the second leg of St Cuthbert’s Way (a 60-mile walk ending at Holy Island in Northumberland). Six miles to the north is Kelso, where surviving ruins belie the fact that Kelso Abbey was once the richest and most powerful in southern Scotland, and took eighty years to build. Kelso lies at the confluence of the River Tweed and River Teviot, a renowned spot for salmon fishing, and a short walk leads to Floors Castle, a huge castellated mansion overlooking the Tweed, which is open for visiting (April to Oct). Shops 1½ miles.
