• About Station House

Peaceful village settingA true gem for rail enthusiasts, this Victorian railway station consists of the Station House (ref HW7742) (the former station master’s house), and Porter’s Lodge (ref HW7806), in a peaceful village setting. They sit right alongside the Llangollen Heritage Steam Railway, which winds its way through the delightful scenery of the Dee Valley between Llangollen and Corwen. Porter’s Lodge has a seating area adjacent to the delightfully restored station platform, where you can sit with a glass of wine and watch the trains go by. This is a perfect location to explore the surrounding area, with great walking, bird watching and myriad outdoor activities nearby. Llangollen, home to the International Musical Eisteddfod, has lovely walks along the canal and over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Erddig and Chirk Castle (NT) are close by and Snowdonia National Park is within easy reach. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 0. 5 miles.

We had a lovely holiday with our sons aged 13, 11, and 10. The house was spacious, warm, and clean, with plenty of character. Being on the preserved railway station was wonderful, especially as we were able to catch the steam train from outside our door, and had a full tour of the signal box. Visits to llangollen, the Great Orme (a bit of a long drive), the aquaduct, climbing Snowdon, Betws Y Coed, and Chester were all great, and the are lovely walks from the station.

Lovely place to stay, a must for steam enthusiasts, staff on the line really friendly and helpful, local area really stunning. A great week. Seems a little expensive for the region? But nevertheless a lovely week. Would recommend to others.

This is a lovely cottage which is set out in fabulous surroundings. Very quiet and peaceful area where only birdsong is heard in the mornings...it's bliss. It is decorated to a good standard and has all the equiptment you will need to make your stay comfortable. It was very clean throughout and it was clear this place is very much loved by the owners. We would certainly recommend this cottage and want to return for another break!

Lovely house in quiet location. Needs a bit of attention to routine maintenance (e.g. light fittings not working) and general decor beginning to looked tired. However still a nice place to stay.......this was our second stay.

The cottage could have been a little cleaner, there were alot of cobwebs in the sitting room and some of the kitchen cupboards wer a little dirty. half of the kitchen lights didn't work- we felt that as this was getting towards the end of the season perhaps there hadn't been time to get on top of the cleaning. There were no areas near the cottage to walk the dogs. But saying all this we still had a great break and it was lovely to be next to such wonderful majestic steam locomotives in action, and seeing the old fashioned signal box working.
