The park is located in Bassenthwaite, Keswick, which is a small Lakeland village that has been voted one of the most peaceful places in the UK for staycations. The park boasts breathtaking views of Skiddaw, Sale Fell and Binsey, all within a few miles. We are exceptionally lucky to be discreetly nestled on the north shores of the beautiful Bassenthwaite Lake, the only lake in the Lake District. The lake is perfect for water sports enthusiasts to enjoy paddleboarding or kayaking, while fishing fans won’t be disappointed. Cold water swimming has also become increasingly popular. If those activities aren’t your thing, don’t worry the views alone will mesmerise you.
Please note that Herdwick Willy’s Bar & Bistro is currently temporarily closed. However, there are still plenty of fantastic dining options nearby. Armathwaite Hall & Spa next door is a spectacular hotel offering an impressive spa, excellent dining options and a perfect venue for weddings and special occasions. The Lakes Distillery, producer of award-winning spirits, is just a few minutes’ walk away. Visitors can enjoy an insightful distillery tour, dine in the bistro and browse the shop for whisky, gin and vodka. The Lake District Wildlife Park is located just behind us, meaning we’re often lucky enough to hear the monkeys exercising their vocal cords a perfect day out for children and animal lovers alike.
Due to our great location, we are within 10 minutes of the beautiful market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth, both of which offer a wonderful selection of independent shops, cafés and restaurants. If you’d prefer not to drive, the local bus stops at the park gates and provides easy access to both towns. If you have time to explore further afield, Crummock Water is just 8 miles away and is fed by Scale Force, the highest waterfall in the Lake District. Ennerdale, the most westerly and remote of the lakes, can be reached in around 12 miles, while the stunning Buttermere Valley is only 14 miles away and offers exhilarating and challenging walks. For thrill-seekers, Whinlatter Forest Park is just 5 miles away, with a range of activities including Go Ape, mountain biking trails, horse riding and much
