Your 'free' day away
England and Wales might be missing out on an extra bank holiday this June, but we’ve got a little consolation prize up our sleeve. While Scotland enjoys a bonus day off on 15 June, our 3 for 2 breaks give you something just as good - a holiday day that feels totally free, and perfect for turning a weekend into a weekend break!
That extra day is your chance to do something a bit daft, a bit different and completely unforgettable. No packed itineraries. No rushing about. Just one bonus day to lean into the fun, whether that means getting competitive, getting muddy or trying something you’d never normally do.
If you’re wondering how to make the most of your ‘free’ day away, here are some wacky ideas to inspire your next Hoseasons break.

Turn your day into a family-day sports spectacular
You don’t need a stadium. Just a bit of space, a stopwatch and a competitive streak.
Think egg and spoon races, three-legged races and a full-blown pillow fighting championship. Add a walking football match for the grown-ups and you’ve got yourself a sports day everyone can join in with.
It’s silly, low-cost and guaranteed to end in giggles. Perfect for parks, big lawns or even a quiet patch of beach on your next UK beach holiday.
Visit somewhere a little bit mysterious
If you like your days out with a twist, try places that feel slightly magical or odd.
In Northumberland, Alnwick Garden’s Lilidorei and Poison Garden are packed with surprises, while The Forbidden Corner in North Yorkshire is a maze of tunnels, follies and unexpected turns that kids and adults both love.

Try zorbing or bubble football
Ever fancied bouncing downhill inside a giant inflatable ball? Or playing football while dressed as a human bubble?
Zorbing and bubble football are brilliant group activities and ideal for using up excess energy. Many UK destinations have centres nearby, so it’s an easy win for an extra day that feels properly different.
Add a dose of adventure
Feeling brave? Use your extra day to go ziplining, climbing or tackling a Go Ape-style treetop course.
It’s a great way to see the landscape from a new angle and makes your short break feel like a proper adventure.

Go mud-first with bog snorkelling
Yes, it’s a real thing. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
Bog snorkelling or any kind of outdoor snorkelling is messy, hilarious and surprisingly popular. If that feels a bit too extreme, a lake or lido dip with goggles still delivers the same ‘we actually did that’ feeling. You could simply wear your snorkel whilst sat in one of our hot tubs, for an even more relaxed approach.
Get hands-on at Diggerland or a quirky theme park
Diggerland is a must for anyone who loves big machines. You can drive, ride and operate real diggers, which feels very cool at any age. And with Diggerland in a number of counties across the UK, from County Durham and Yorkshire to Devon and Kent, there's one within comfortable driving distance.
Weird and wacky theme parks are ideal for an extra day when you want maximum novelty with minimum planning.

Underwater wrestling (the family-friendly version)
This one’s best kept simple. Head to the pool, pull on your swimwear and make up your own underwater challenges.
Who can do the silliest pose? Who can push a pool noodle the furthest? It’s all the fun of underwater wrestling, minus the seriousness.
Make winter sports work all year round
Indoor skiing and snow sports centres let you ski, snowboard or toboggan whatever the weather.
It’s a brilliant option if the forecast isn’t playing ball and a fun way to do something completely different without travelling far.

Take on an inflatable assault course
Inflatable obstacle courses are brilliant for mixed ages. You can race, crawl, bounce and fall over in spectacular fashion. It’s Total Wipeout for families!
They’re a great shout if you’re travelling with friends or older kids, and ideal for burning off energy before a relaxed evening back at your lodge. This one is absolutely perfect for our holiday parks with swimming pools!
Try mermaiding for the day
Mermaiding is swimming while wearing a mermaid tail, and it’s far more fun than it has any right to be.
Many pools and leisure centres offer sessions, making this a great option for kids and adults who secretly want to live their underwater fantasy.

Go cheese rolling, minus the bruises
You don’t need a steep hill or a wheel of cheese. Grab some Babybels and set up your own low-stakes cheese rolling competition.
It’s quick to organise, oddly tense and very funny. Bonus points for creative finishing lines and dramatic commentary.
Glide along on a Segway tour
Segway tours are surprisingly easy to pick up and a fun way to explore local paths, parks and countryside.
You’ll cover more ground than walking, without feeling rushed. Ideal for that extra holiday day when you want to see more but still keep things relaxed.

Why an extra day makes all the difference
With 3 for 2 breaks and 4 for 3 stays, you’re not just getting more time away. You’re getting the freedom to slow things down and say yes to something spontaneous.
One day for exploring. One day for relaxing. One day for doing something completely daft that you’ll talk about long after you’re home.
Book your 3 for 2 or 4 for 3 Hoseasons break today and make that extra day the one everyone remembers.
