Which Hoseasons holiday would the Gavin and Stacey characters book?
With anticipation for the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special 2024 growing more and more each day, we can barely contain our excitement for the long-awaited finale episode! Meanwhile, what better way to pass the time than by dreaming up the perfect Hoseasons holiday for each character?! That's right, we've taken the loveable cast members of Gavin and Stacey and matched them up with a Hoseasons cottage, lodge, holiday park or boat that we think they'd love to book for their next UK break.
Ready to see "what's occurring?"
Stay at Darwin Forest
Recently loved and reviewed by Gavin & Stacey's Joanna Page, Darwin Forest is set in lush woodland near Matlock. Part of our Magnificent collection, Darwin Forest offers lodges sleeping up to eight guests and two pets, with all the facilities you'll need for hours of family adventure!

Gavin and Stacey: a big family lodge
First things first, let’s find our title characters their perfect family holiday.
As we found out in the 2019 Christmas special, Gavin and Stacey now have three kids (and who knows if more will appear in the 2024 Christmas special!) Not only do they need somewhere romantic to help them keep the spark of their 17-year marriage alive, but they also need somewhere to entertain three teenagers. We think one of the classic lodges at Finlake Resort and Spa, which is part of our exclusive Go Active Breaks collection, ticks all the boxes. There’s the option of a private hot tub where Gavin and Stacey can spend a cosy evening together; an onsite spa if they want to treat themselves to a massage; and everything from a waterpark and adventure playground to tennis courts and horse riding for the kids. Plus, there's no need for the couple to bicker over Wales versus Essex, as the resort is on neutral ground in Devon. Lush!

Spa Radience hot tub lodge at Raywell Hall Country Lodges in Raywell, Beverley, Yorkshire
Pam and Mick: a luxurious hot tub lodge
Move over Gavin and Stacey, we all know Pam and Mick are the real #couplegoals! Married for over 40 years, these two certainly know the recipe for a lasting relationship, and we think romantic weekends away are one of the ingredients. If the original Shipmans are going on a UK getaway, they’re doing it in style. After all, houseproud Pam isn’t leaving her pride and joy for anything less. That’s where Raywell Hall Country Lodges - part of our exclusive Autograph collection - comes in, and it is well worth the trip up to Yorkshire from Essex. There are plenty of lovely lodges to choose from, with beautiful views and first-class facilities. Mick can man the barbecue and pour the prosecco at the side bar, whilst Pam relaxes in the private hot tub or lazes out on the cabana bed. Just wait until she tells Big Fat Sue about this place…

Onsite amusement arcades at North Shore Holiday Park in Skegness, Lincolnshire
Nessa, Smithy and Neil the Baby: a coastal caravan near the slot machines
Now, given the cliffhanger of the last Gavin and Stacey Christmas special in 2019, where we left Nessa down on one knee to Smithy, we’re not even sure if this family holiday would be happening, but we’re being optimistic with this one.
We know Nessa loves the arcades, having worked the slots on Barry Island for years, so we see her in a classic seaside caravan holiday park, where her, Neil the Baby (now 15!) and - hopefully - Smithy, can have loads of fun together on a quintessential British break. We think Skegness would be right up their street: fish-and-chips, live entertainment and amusements by the sea. Not only is North Shore Holiday Park just a short walk from Skegness Pier and beach, but it even has its own amusement arcades right onsite. It’s no wonder it won our ‘Family Fun – East of England’ category at the Hoseasons Diamond Awards 2024. Tidy.
How is Nessa getting all the way from Barry to the bright lights of Skegness, you ask? Well, she's probably not going on Dave's Coaches, but more likely hitching a ride with an old truckdriver friend she knows from her days working at Eddie Stobart.

Caravan at Mill Rythe Holiday Park (MLRY), Hayling Island, Hampshire, England, UK
Gwen: an island getaway
For this one, we’ve been inspired by series 2 episode 5 of Gavin and Stacey, when Bryn and Nessa perform a memorable karaoke version of 'Islands in the Stream' at Gwen’s birthday barn dance, her favourite song. Whilst we don’t think homebird Gwen is quite ready to hop on a plane all the way to the Caribbean just yet, we do think all of those journeys to Essex means she’s more than prepared to handle a short break away on Hayling Island in Hampshire, off the south coast of England. We think Gwen would want to keep things classic with a seaside caravan holiday, and of course there needs to be a kitchen for her to cook up as many omelettes as her heart desires. One of the contemporary caravans at Mill Rythe Holiday Park would be perfect - she could even have her own private hot tub! The peaceful atmosphere will help Gwen relax and get away from it all, and if she wants to get out and about, there's plenty to do with coastal walks and beautiful beaches nearby. Plus, if Stacey and the grandkids want to tag along, the holiday park also has an indoor heated pool, children's play area and family entertainment.

A boat cruising along the River Bure at Horning on the Norfolk Broads
Bryn and Jason: a classic boat trip
If you’re a fan of Gavin and Stacey, then you’ll know all about the infamous fishing trip between Uncle Bryn and his nephew (Stacey’s brother) Jason. Except we don’t really know all about it, that’s the problem! In the run up to the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special 2024, there have been whispers that we might finally find out what really went down on that fateful day.
Now, whilst we can’t go back and change whatever happened, if Bryn and Jason wanted to have a redo, then our boating holidays on the Norfolk Broads might be just the ticket! They could even read our blog post on the best things to do on the Norfolk Broads to help them plan the perfect itinerary. There are countless cruisers to choose from to experience these majestic waterways, and with options sleeping 2-12, the pair has the choice to invite some extra guests along this time to prevent any more awkward shenanigans…

Hydroptherapy pool at The Springs Resort and Spa in Wallingford, Oxfordshire
Dawn and Pete: a spa and golf resort
Let’s be honest, the whole reason for this weekend away would no doubt be an apology present from Pete to Dawn after one of their infamous rows, or perhaps they're renewing their vows (again) and need somewhere for a mini moon? Well, we think Pam and Mick's neighbours would like somewhere luxurious, where they can have enough space away from one another if they want to. Introducing The Springs Resort and Spa in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, part of our exclusive Magnificent collection. It's the ideal place for a relaxing spa break or golfing holiday, with Oxford city centre only a short drive away. Dawn can chill out in the hydrotherapy pool while Pete tees off on the golf course, then they can meet for a romantic dinner in the evening – perfect! It’s also only a couple of hours’ drive from their house in Billericay in case they argue and decide to head home early. Although we’re not sure what you could find to argue about in this dreamy location.

The whole gang: a fabulous Christmas party house
Whilst we’re pretty sure the Shipmans and the Wests will probably be spending Christmasses between Barry and Billericay for many more years, we wanted to give them a luxury alternative should they fancy an upgrade (or if Pam wins the lottery!) Although the house is definitely more convenient for Pam and Mick, being in Romford, less than an hour from Billericay, we think even the Welsh clan will be keen to travel for this one. The Essex Mansion certainly lives up to its name: a 7-bedroom house set in 4 acres, with a heated indoor pool, gym, sauna, cinema room, games room and a huge dining table with more than enough room to seat everyone for Christmas dinner. It’s even decorated for the festive season – imagine that on the next Gavin and Stacey Christmas special!
There’s space to sleep 16 should some surprise guests make an appearance at Christmas, as they so often do...
So, there we have it. Our personal pick for each character's ideal UK break. I guess we'll just have to wait for the Gavin and Stacey finale to make sure everyone is still on speaking terms before they book anything...
Merry Christmas everyone!
