From the seaside resort of Koksijde, which lies on the highest and longest sand dune in Belgium and nearby more tranquil De Haan, the coastal resorts, busy ports and medieval cities of the latter north are a delight to explore – and within easy reach by ferry.

Further east around Mol the countryside abounds with chateaux and abbeys, whilst the city of Antwerp beckons. Even if you can’t afford the diamonds there are still the famous chocolates and beer to indulge in – and in more varieties than you would might expect. Further east near the woods of Ardennes, Vielsalm is a resort ideal for summer walking and winter skiing as well as a source of delicious pâté!
