Make room for romance

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and lovebirds all over the UK are busy searching for the perfect destination to celebrate with their partner. This year, Valentine's Day falls on a Friday, meaning it's the ideal time to whisk your loved one away for a romantic weekend break. Or, if you're not able to celebrate on the date itself, you could book something in as a surprise for later in the year.

To help you decide on the right location, we've done some handy romance research...

How we worked out the most romantic places to spend Valentine's Day in the UK:

We began by filtering through thousands of reviews from our holiday parks and lodges booked in the past two years, seeing how often terms like "Romance", "Romantic", "Valentine", "Boyfriend", "Girlfriend", "Husband", "Wife" and "Partner" came up.

We then decided on two key metrics:

1. Romance-O-Meter
How frequently the romantic words appeared in reviews

2. Romance Ratio
The ratio of reviews with romantic words vs total reviews

From this, we were able to identify the most romantic places in the UK to spend Valentine's Day. We also took a look at our most-booked lodges for Valentine's Day in the past two years. Scroll down to find out the top runners!

Sunset over the Winskill Stones Nature Reserve in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire: highest mention of "romantic" for a region

From looking through our accommodation reviews, the term "romantic" was used the most times for properties in North Yorkshire. We're not surprised - those cobblestone streets and moody moors were made for romantic walks and sunset picnics. You've got plenty to choose from here for a couples weekend away, whether you prefer to hide out in the middle of nowhere in the Yorkshire Dales or want to stay close to the action in places like Harrogate or York.

The York Colour & Light Projection Show is running from February 4th to February 22nd 2026 and will transform historic landmarks into dazzling after-dark displays, perfect for couples seeking a magical evening. With vibrant visuals dancing across iconic architecture, it’s a unique way to explore the city’s charm hand in hand. Pitch up at the Eye of York at Clifford's Tower or grab a hot drink and enjoy a romantic stroll through York’s illuminated streets.

Tip: For a boutique break in North Yorkshire, our pick is Bainbridge Ings, part of our exclusive Bouja collection. Pre-order the Romance Package ahead of your stay, and you'll arrive to flowers, chocolates and bubbly.

Millport Bay on the Isle of Cumbrae, Scotland

Isle of Cumbrae: highest Romance Ratio

Given how unique this location is, there weren't many reviews to go off for the Isle of Cumbrae, but nearly 20% of them mentioned at least one of our romantic terms, giving it the highest Romance Ratio of any of our regions. The small island, just off the west coast of Scotland, is definitely a hidden gem. And, despite its remote location, its not quite as tricky to get to as some of the other Scottish Isles, especially if you're coming from Glasgow. You'll need to drive or get the train to Largs, and then hop on the ferry to Millport, the only town on the island. Once you arrive, hop on a boat trip to try and spot dolphins and seals around the island.

Tip: As the island is only four miles long and two miles wide, accommodation options here can be limited. For a cosy base to explore the island, check out the Osocozee apartment, which is right by the coast and just a short walk from town. If you'd prefer a cottage, then consider booking this Island Escape, on the other side of town, just 100 yards from the water' edge.

Whitby: highest on our Romance-O-Meter

Just when you thought we'd covered North Yorkshire, it's back to claim another top spot on our list! This time, it's the seaside resort of Whitby, which had the highest mention of romantic-related words in our accommodation reviews. The pretty coastal town is renowned for its enchanting atmosphere, which sets the stage for romance. Striking cliffs, sandy shores, narrow cobbled streets and a historic abbey standing high above the town. Whitby's famous pier is the perfect romantic spot to enjoy a leisurely stroll and some tasty fish-and-chips while admiring the picturesque boats.
