Lush meadows, ancient woodlands, romantic waterfalls, quaint stone villages and historic abbeys: it's no wonder the breathtaking landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales have been inspiring novelists, artists and poets for centuries. You can expect a warm Yorkshire welcome when you visit one of the traditional villages or market towns, where the stone-built streets are lined with independent shops, inviting cafés and cosy pubs. As a National Park, the Yorkshire Dales offers plenty of enchantment and adventure for lovers of the outdoors, including hiking, cycling, caving and fishing. Experienced hikers could attempt the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which involves summitting the three highest peaks in Yorkshire – Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough – in just one day. Delve into the area’s rich history with trips to medieval Bolton Castle, the 12th-century Jervaulx Abbey or the Saxon Aysgarth Church. Be sure to sample local delicacies like Wensleydale cheese, homemade Yorkshire puddings and a proper cup of Yorkshire tea. Our holiday parks and lodges in the Yorkshire Dales provide a great base for discovering this beautiful part of the UK!

These stunning waterfalls are on the River Ure in the picturesque region of Wensleydale, in the east of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Film fans may recognise the falls from “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”, as they provided a dramatic backdrop for a scene with Kevin Costner and Michael Wincott. There are three main cascades, which flow over limestone steps and are surrounded by lush countryside and woodland. There are well-marked paths along the trail and several viewpoints allowing you to admire the waterfalls from various angles. Combine your trip with a visit to the Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre, then pop into the small village of Aysgarth for a mooch around the quaint shops and tearooms.
This is a scenic circular walk near the village of Ingleton, in the western part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Renowned for its stunning natural beauty, the trail is open all year round, allowing you to discover this waterfall wonderland in every season. There are several impressive waterfalls to admire along the trail, as you wander through rocky outcrops and enchanting woodlands. At the start of the trail, there’s a handy visitor centre with maps, toilets and a café, and afterwards, you could visit the charming village of Ingleton for a cosy meal in the pub.
Another waterfall which may be familiar from “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves”, Hardraw Force is recognised as one of the highest unbroken waterfalls in England, with an impressive 30-metre single drop. The popular trail starts from the Green Dragon Inn, where you pay an entrance fee to access the private grounds that lead to the waterfall through scenic countryside. Those who visit after heavy rainfall will get the most impressive views of the waterfall, as this is when the volume of water is at its highest.
