Things to do in the Gower Peninsula on your holiday in Wales

Enjoy outdoor activities...

From lazy beach days to challenging hikes, the Gower Peninsula in Glamorgan is one giant outdoor playground, offering a wealth of activities to suit all interests, ages and abilities. Go for scenic cycles along the coastal path and through pretty villages; hit the waves with your surfboard or kayak; and try climbing on the sea stacks of Three Cliffs Bay or bouldering on the rocks of Fall Bay. If you're any kind of beach lover, don't miss the opportunity to visit Rhossili Bay, which is consistently voted one of the best beaches in the world! When it comes to scenic walks, you're spoilt for choice. Take in stunning sea views along the Gower Coast Path, which follows the entire coastline of the peninsula, or soak up incredible vistas everywhere you turn as you hike along the ancient ridge of Cefn Bryn, also known as the "Backbone of Gower". Whether it's a pet-friendly Gower Peninsula holiday park in the countryside or a luxury cottage on the coast, we can provide the perfect base for your outdoor adventures!

Explore nature & wildlife...

The beautiful Gower Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers, offering diverse habitats from coastal cliffs to ancient woodlands. These are the landscapes that inspired Welsh literary legend Dylan Thomas, after all. Birdwatchers can observe a diverse range of species throughout the year, with notable birding sites including Llangennith Marsh, Cwm Ivy Woods and Worm's Head. Seal watching boat trips operate seasonally from locations such as Swansea Bay and Oxwich Bay, providing visitors with the chance to see seals and other marine mammals up close in their natural environment. As you explore coastal paths in particular, you can often spot seabirds nestling along the cliffs and, if you're really lucky, dolphins swimming in the offshore waters. Whether you prefer coast, countryside or a bit of both, our choice of self-catering holiday cottages in the Gower Peninsula will leave you feeling inspired and invigorated ahead of your holiday in Wales!

Visit historic sites & attractions...

The Gower Peninsula is rich in history and home to a variety of fascinating historic sites, ranging from ancient burial mounds to medieval castles. For impressive castle ruins and panoramic views, visit the 12th-century Pennard Castle, perched on a hilltop above Three Cliffs Bay; explore the medieval Oxwich Castle, surrounded by woodland and overlooking Oxwich Bay; or roam the grounds of Oystermouth Castle, with its majestic setting above Swansea Bay in the seaside setting of the Mumbles. If you're interested in prehistoric sites, then be sure to visit the Neolithic burial chamber of Arthur's Stone (Maen Ceti). Located near the village of Reynoldston, legend has it that the stone came from King Arthur, who removed it from his shoe while travelling in Carmarthenshire and threw it across the Loughor Estuary to Cefn Bryn. Our Gower Peninsula cottages are perfectly placed for exploring the local area and its many fascinating sites.
