Calthwaite Hall Retreat

4.2

out of 5

Calthwaite Hall Retreat is an intimate, exclusive collection of hot tub lodges and pods, discreetly set within the grounds of a historic country house near Penrith, in the heart of Cumbria. Created on the footprint of the barns that once served the estate’s dairy farm, it pairs the timeless elegance of country house living with refined contemporary comfort. With only a handful of lodges, privacy and tranquillity come as standard. Each stylish, beautifully cosy lodge has its own private hot tub – an indulgent place to sink beneath Cumbria’s star-filled skies, serenaded by the call of the resident peacocks and the gentle whinny of the estate’s charming miniature horses.
Spend unhurried days wandering the formal grounds and ornamental ponds designed by celebrated landscape gardener William Sawrey Gilpin. As evening falls, join the owner for a drink in the Orangery bar and enjoy personal recommendations for the very best of the Lake District – a wealth of experiences, all within a short drive.
Although it feels a world away, the Hall sits at the heart of Calthwaite, a picturesque estate village of traditional sandstone buildings, complete with church, primary school and historic workers’ cottages. Shops are within a 10-minute drive, and the retreat is ideally placed for the most sought-after corners of the central and northern Lake District. The Scottish Borders are within easy reach, as are the peaceful western Pennine foothills. Traditional market towns, historic Roman remains, lakeside and fell walks, and spectacular waterfalls all lie a short drive away. The perfect intimate countryside escape for couples, families and four-legged companions alike.
